Full identification of boar seminal plasma (SP) proteins remains challenging. This study aims to provide an extensive proteomic analysis of boar SP and to generate an accessible database of boar SP-proteome. A SP-pool (33 entire ejaculates/11 boars; 3 ejaculates/boar) was analyzed to characterize the boar SP-proteome. Twenty ejaculates (5 boars, 4 ejaculates/boar) collected in portions (P1: first 10 mL of sperm rich ejaculate fraction (SRF), P2: rest of SRF and P3: post-SRF) were analyzed to evaluate differentially expressed SP-proteins among portions. Spermatozoa were obtained from nine epididymal regions of six epididymides taken from five men undergoing castration for prostatic carcinoma (53-76 years) and from one man with testicular cancer (38 years). Spermatozoa were obtained by mincing tissue in phosphate-buffered saline, making air dried smears and staining with Hemacolor. The effects of the tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine on sleep EEG and nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) were investigated during a long-term study in a normal male control subject. During 21 consecutive days the subject received first placebo for 3 days, then stepwise increasing dosages of clomipramine for 10 days, and finally placebo after withdrawal for 8 days. Under clomipramine, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep was suppressed markedly; an REM rebound occurred after withdrawal. Awake and stages 1 and 2 increased while slow wave sleep was diminished under clomipramine. Those non-REM parameters returned to baseline values after drug cessation. MUC1 in human testis and ejaculated spermatozoa and its relationship to male fertility status.

MUC1 is a cell surface glycoprotein with a previously described antiadhesive role involved in different aspects of reproductive function. We found MUC1 expressed in male germ cell line and within the ejaculated sperm, but its presence in mature sperm does not seem to be related to male fertility. This was confirmed after analysis of results from assisted reproduction techniques with oocyte donation related with MUC1, although higher MUC1 expression is related to sperm recovery after preparation.
