Анализ и оптимизация устойчивости балок на сплошном упругом основании часть I (балки конечной длины) [Analysis and optimization of a beam on elastic …

2017

Problems of defining the optimal (against buckling) cross section area distribution for beams interacting with elastic foundation are considered. The stability of limited pinned beams and infinite continuous beams is analyzed. For all beams under consideration, the stability analysis is performed as for constant as for variable distributions of strength beam characteristics. The critical length is determined and the variational statement of beam stability problems is presented for this beam type. The exact solution of optimal problem is presented in the case of linear dependence of limited beam bending hardness on beam cross section area. For the case of squared and cubic dependences, the n…

For all beams under consideration, the stability analysis is performed as for constant as for variable distributions of strength beam characteristics. The critical length is determined and the variational statement of beam stability problems is presented for this beam type. For infinite continuous beams, the stability problems are investigated as for constant as for periodic distribution of strength characteristics. In the second case, the analysis of infinite beam can…

Analysis of a viscoelastic phase separation model

2020

A new model for viscoelastic phase separation is proposed, based on a systematically derived conservative two-fluid model. Dissipative effects are included by phenomenological viscoelastic terms. By construction, the model is consistent with the second law of thermodynamics, and we study well-posedness of the model, i.e., existence of weak solutions, a weak-strong uniqueness principle, and stability with respect to perturbations, which are proven by means of relative energy estimates. A good qualitative agreement with mesoscopic simulations is observed in numerical tests.

Coffee and tea breaks for liver health

2017

Let food be your medicine (Hippocrates, 400 B. C.) The quality of diet, calorie intake and physical activity/sedentari-ness are pivotal drivers in the interplay between health and non-communicable diseases, and the battle against the risks associ-ated with Western-type behaviour is the top priority of medical societies and health institutions. Unfortunately, any attempt at adopting a healthy lifestyle is counteracted by unhealthy environmental pressure, which favours the diseases of affluence, including liver diseases. The typical Mediterranean diet, characterized by the consumption of complex carbohydrates, fibre-and antioxidant-rich vegetables, and polyunsaturated fatty acids, is considered…

Healon5 viscoadaptive formulation: Comparison to Healon and Healon GV

2001

Abstract Purpose To compare the rheological characteristics of a viscoadaptive viscoelastic formulation with those of 2 standard ophthalmic viscosurgical devices (OVDs). Setting Department of Ophthalmology, Johannes Gutenberg-University, and Max Planck-Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany. Methods An independent comparative study of 3 OVDs of sodium hyaluronate (Healon®, Healon GV®, and Healon®5) was performed using the Advanced Rheometric Expansion System to analyze rheologic behavior (eg, dynamic frequency dependence of the complex viscosity) as well as rheological parameters (eg, viscosity at zero shear rate, pseudoplasticity, relaxation time, elastic and viscous modulus). Resu…

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging for focal liver lesions: bridging the gap between research and clinical practice

2021

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is highly important for the detection, characterization, and follow-up of focal liver lesions. Several quantitative MRI-based methods have been proposed in addition to qualitative imaging interpretation to improve the diagnostic work-up and prognostics in patients with focal liver lesions. This includes DWI with apparent diffusion coefficient measurements, intravoxel incoherent motion, perfusion imaging, MR elastography, and radiomics. Multiple research studies have reported promising results with quantitative MRI methods in various clinical settings. Nevertheless, applications in everyday clinical practice are limited. This review describes the basic princ…

<p>Shock Waves as a Treatment Modality for Spasticity Reduction and Recovery Improvement in Post-Stroke Adults – Current Evidence and Qualitati…

2020

Purpose: This systematic review examines intervention studies using extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) application in post-stroke muscle spasticity with particular emphasis on the comparison of two different types of radial (rESWT) and focused shock waves (fESWT). Methods: PubMed, PEDro, Scopus, and EBSCOhost databases were systematically searched. Studies published between the years 2000 and 2019 in the impact factor journals and available in the English full-text version were eligible for inclusion. All qualified articles were classified in terms of their scientific reliability and methodological quality using the PEDro criteria. The PRISMA guidelines were followed and the registrat…
