Actinomycetes have the genetic capability to synthesize many different biologically active secondary metabolites and of these compounds, antibiotics predominate in therapeutic and commercial importance. Intensive research often centres on the use of molecular techniques to investigate the physiology and genetics of antibiotic biosynthesis with a view to improving production. The isolation of clones of Streptomyces hygroscopicus, the producer of geldanamycin, which synthesizes geldanamycin in S. lividans, is reported. Characterization of Fusion Lines Obtained with Laser Welding on Ductile Iron Plates

This paper studies the ductile iron (DI) weldability using laser welding. For performing an Yb:YAG continuous laser was used, with a maximum power of 6 kW. The parametrical window power (P) - welding speed (S) was explored by carrying out the fusion lines on ductile iron plates without preheating, to determinate areas of weldability (complete penetration, correct geometry) to allow further characterization. The criteria for selection of focus areas were the geometry of the fusion lines and the absence of the welding defects. In this study, mono-digestion of rendering wastes and co-digestion of rendering wastes with potato pulp were studied for the first time in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) experiments at 55°C. Rendering wastes have high protein and lipid contents and are considered good substrates for methane production. However, accumulation of digestion intermediate products viz., volatile fatty acids (VFAs), long chain fatty acids (LCFAs) and ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N and/or free NH3) can cause process imbalance during the digestion. The Hsp90 molecule, one of the most abundant heat shock proteins in mammalian cells, maintains homeostasis and prevents stress-induced cellular damage. Hsp90 is expressed under normal conditions at a level of about 1-2 Percent of total proteins, while its expression increases 2-10 fold in cancer cells. The two main constitutively expressed isoforms of Hsp90 are known as Hsp90-alpha and Hsp90-beta, and their upregulation is associated with tumor progression, invasion and formation of metastases, as well as development of drug resistance. Abstract During the last few decades, the development of new anticancer strategies had to face the instability of many tumors, occurring when the genetic plasticity of cells produces new drug-resistant cancers. It has been shown that a chaperone protein, heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), is one of the fundamental factors involved in the cell response to stresses, and its role in many biochemical pathways has been demonstrated. Thus, the inhibition of Hsp90 represents a new target of antitumor therapy, since it may influence many specific signaling pathways.
