Climate–human interactions contributed to historical forest recruitment dynamics in Mediterranean subalpine ecosystems
2020
Long-term tree recruitment dynamics of subalpine forests mainly depend on temperature changes, but little is known about the feedbacks between historical land use and climate. Here, we analyze a southern European, millennium-long dataset of tree recruitment from three high-elevation pine forests located in Mediterranean mountains (Pyrenees, northeastern Spain; Pollino, southern Italy; and Mt. Smolikas, northern Greece). We identify synchronized recruitment peaks in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, following prolonged periods of societal and climate instability. Major European population crises in the 14th and 15th centuries associated with recurrent famines, the Black Death pandemic,…
High-elevation inter-site differences in Mount Smolikas tree-ring width data
2017
Abstract We present the longest high-elevation tree-ring width dataset in the Mediterranean reaching back to the 6th century CE. The network includes 101 living and 92 relict Pinus heldreichii Christ trees from four differently exposed sites in the 2100–2200 m a.s.l. elevation range of Mt. Smolikas in the Pindus Mountains in Greece. Though the sites were all sampled within a distance of 1550–2014 = 0.65–0.87), indicating site exposure might affect tree-ring formation. We here explore the consequence of exposure differences on the climate signals in an eastern Mediterranean treeline ecotone. Temporally stable growth/climate relationships reveal similar seasonal patterns among the four sites…

Masteroppgave klinisk helsevitenskap ME520 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Background:Information and communication technology (ICT) affects our everyday lives and the government wants it to be equal opportunities for everyone despite gender, age, background and economy. Many seniors want to be an active player in this digital everyday life. However, lack of knowledge and skills may affectthe confidence to get started. Technological solutions are needed that canmeet their needs and which are adjusted to the functional impairments the individual may have. The importance of facilitated training and user-friendly equipment can be of great value to achieve a greater degree of mastering and confide…

Masteroppgave spesialsykepleie ME519 – Universitetet i Agder 2018 Background There is a widespread practice that one parent is present during the induction of his or her child’s anesthesia. There are quantitative studies on how the parent’s presence impacts the induction, the impact on the child, and satisfaction with the parents. Literature within psychology states that there are bonds between parent and child. However, I found little on what the parents’ experiences are. Aim The intention of this study is to gain a better understanding of the parent’s experiences when they are following their child to, and attending, the induction of the general anesthesia. The research question What is t…

Ulrika Söderhamn, Bjørg Dale, Kari Sundsli, Olle SöderhamnCentre for Caring Research-Southern Norway, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, University of Agder, Grimstad, NorwayBackground: It is important to obtain knowledge about the prevalence of nutritional risk and associated factors among older home-dwelling people in order to be able to meet nutritional challenges in this group in the future and to plan appropriate interventions. The aim of this survey was to investigate the prevalence of home-dwelling older people at nutritional risk and to identify associated factors using two different nutritional screening instruments as self-report instruments. Methods…

Tools to identify nutritional risk for older people in the home
2012
Author's version of an article in the journal: British Journal of Community Nursing. Community nurses are in an ideal position to identify older home-dwelling people at nutritional risk and thereby to prevent undernutrition. The aim of this paper is to present some nutritional screening instruments for older home-dwelling people and to discuss nutritional issues of importance for community nurses in order to assess nutritional risk and prevent undernutrition. The screening instruments Nutritional Form For the Elderly (NUFFE) and Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) are especially developed for screening older people. The Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) is recommended for screening…
Psychometric testing of the Norwegian version of the Nutritional Form For the Elderly among older home-dwelling people

Ulrika Söderhamn, Bjørg Dale, Kari Sundsli, Solveig T Tomstad, Olle SöderhamnCenter for Caring Research, Southern Norway, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, University of Agder, Grimstad, NorwayBackground: Nutritional screening instruments need to be evaluated in terms of reliability and validity and being able to demonstrate sensitivity and specificity for use in clinical practice and research. The aims of this study were to test the reliability and validity of the Norwegian version of the Nutritional Form For the Elderly (NUFFE-NO) in a sample of older home-dwelling people, and to use the short form of the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA-SF) as a standard.…
