An ab initio potential energy surface for the C2H2-N2 system

International audience; An ab initio potential energy surface determined at the CCSD(T) level of theory is presented for the van der Waals complex C2H2-N2. Additional calculations performed with the HF- and DFT-SAPT methods compare well with the CCSD(T) results and allow a better understanding of the main features of this interaction potential surface. An expansion of this surface over spherical harmonics has also been performed. The global energy minimum of the complex is obtained for the linear conformation. The growth of charged platelets.

Growth models of charged nanoplatelets are investigated with Monte Carlo simulations and simple theory. In a first model, 2-dimensional simulations in the canonical ensemble are used to demonstrate that the growth of a single weakly charged platelet could be limited by its own internal repulsion. The short range attractive interaction in the crystal is modeled with a square well potential while the electrostatic interactions are described with a screened Coulomb potential. The qualitative behavior of this case can also be described by simply balancing the attractive crystal energy with the screened Coulomb repulsion between the crystal sites. Efficient FPGA Implementation of an Adaptive Noise Canceller

A hardware implementation of an adaptive noise canceller (ANC) is presented. It has been synthesized within an FPGA, using a modified version of the least mean square (LMS) error algorithm. The results obtained so far show a significant decrease of the required gate count when compared with a standard LMS implementation, while increasing the ANC bandwidth and signal to noise (S/N) ratio. This novel adaptive noise canceller is then useful for enhancing the S/N ratio of data collected from sensors (or sensor arrays) working in noisy environment, or dealing with potentially weak signals.

An innovative mechanical motion converter for sea wave applications

The paper shows an innovative system designed and developed by University of Palermo. The device is based on a simple mechanical converter able to transform a variable bidirectional linear motion into a unidirectional rotary motion. This technology can be successful used in sea wave applications, producing a mechanical output usable for the electrical energy production.

Singlet and triplet excitons in conjugated polymers.

1992

Exciton states in conjugated polymers are theoretically studied in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model supplemented by long-range Coulomb interactions. The relationship between exciton energies and basic interaction parameters is clarified, demonstrating the special nature of one-dimensional excitons. The binding energies of the lowest singlet and triplet excitons depend sensitively upon the on-site Coulomb energy. Relevant experiments in polydiacetylene can be explained by the present model using moderate interaction strength.

Electrical fluctuations in monolayer-protected metal nanoclusters

Abstract Monolayer-protected clusters (MPCs) are formed by a neutral or charged metallic core surrounded by an organic ligand monolayer. We estimate the electric potential fluctuations of a MPC in an electrolyte solution by using the equilibrium fluctuation–dissipation theorem and the non-linear Poisson–Boltzmann equation extended to account for ion penetration in the monolayer. Significant fluctuations are predicted because the MPC capacitance is small (approximately 1 aF). Four transport coefficients characterize the thermoelectric properties of materials. Three of them are widely measured and studied. But the number of references on the Peltier coefficient are very limited. This unequal result is a consequence of the Onsager reciprocal relation (ORR).
