Mathematical modelling of alternating electromagnetic and hydrodynamic fields, induced by bar type conductors in a cylinder

2009

The heating of buildings by ecologically clean and compact local devices is an interesting and actual problem. One of the modern areas of applications developed during last ten years is an effective usage of electrical energy by alternating current to produce heat energy. This work presents the mathematical model of one of such devices. It is a finite cylinder with viscous incompressible liquid and with metal electrodes of the form of bars placed parallel to the cylinder axis in the liquid. These conductors are connected to the alternating current. First published online: 14 Oct 2010

Conductive and Capacitive Properties of the Bipolar Membrane Junction Studied by AC Impedance Spectroscopy

2001

The complete ac impedance spectrum of four bipolar membranes is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally taking into account both ionic transport and water dissociation together with the structural aspects of the bipolar junction. A theoretical model based on the Nernst-Planck and Poisson equations for the conductive and capacitive properties of the junction provides a qualitative description of the bipolar membranes for a broad range of electric currents and temperatures. Special attention is paid to the characteristics of the bipolar junction structure and the contact region between the two ion-exchange layers. It is observed that the effective area of this region increases with the…

Considering lithium-ion battery 3D-printing via thermoplastic material extrusion and polymer powder bed fusion

2021

Abstract In this paper, the ability to 3D print lithium-ion batteries through Pmnbspace thermoplastic material extrusion and polymer powder bed fusion is considered. Focused on the formulation of positive electrodes composed of polypropylene, LiFePO4 as active material, and conductive additives, advantages and drawbacks of both additive manufacturing technologies, are thoroughly discussed from the electrochemical, electrical, morphological and mechanical perspectives. Based on these preliminary results, strategies to further optimize the electrochemical performances are proposed. Through a comprehensive modeling study, the enhanced electrochemical suitability at high current densities of va…

ChemInform Abstract: Electrical Conductive Coordination Polymers

2012

Coordination polymers are currently one of the hottest topics in Inorganic and Supramolecular Chemistry. This critical review summarizes the current state-of-the-art on electrical conductive coordination polymers (CPs), also named metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The data were collected following two sort criteria of the CPs structure: dimensionality and bridging ligands (151 references).

Polydithienothiophenes: Two new conjugated materials with narrow band gap

1997

Abstract The electrochemical polymerisation of dithieno[3,4-b:3',2'-d]thiophene and dithieno[3,4-b:2',3'-d]thiophene leads to conjugated materials with narrow band gap in which the p- and n-doping processes are possible in organic electrolytes. The spectroelectrochemical study of these polymers is reported.

A Model for Assessing the Magnitude and Distribution of Sheath Currents in Medium and High-Voltage Cable Lines

2020

In this article, the authors discuss a simulation model to study the effect of cross-bonding of metallic sheaths, and/or nonmagnetic armors, of single-core medium- and high-voltage cables in the same circuit. In single-core cables, the resistive losses due to the induced circulating currents in cable sheaths or armors cause an increase of the cable temperature, which therefore reduces its ampacity. This is a serious issue affecting the distribution and transmission lines. In addition, the risk of electric shock due to induced voltages may be present if a person is in contact with the armor/sheath at its unbounded end. For these reasons, special bonding techniques of metal sheaths are employ…

On the distribution of lightning current among interconnected grounding systems in medium voltage grids

2018

This paper presents the results of a first investigation on the effects of lightning stroke on medium voltage installations' grounding systems, interconnected with the metal shields of the Medium Voltage (MV) distribution grid cables or with bare buried copper ropes. The study enables us to evaluate the distribution of the lightning current among interconnected ground electrodes in order to estimate if the interconnection, usually created to reduce ground potential rise during a single-line-to-ground fault, can give place to dangerous situations far from the installation hit by the lightning stroke. Four different case studies of direct lightning stroke are presented and discussed: (1) two …
