Green phosphorescence and electroluminescence of sulfur pentafluoride-functionalized cationic iridium(III) complexes

2015

EZ-C acknowledges the University of St Andrews for financial support. We report four cationic iridium(III) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(dtBubpy)](PF6) that have sulfurpentafluoride-modified 1-phenylpyrazole and 2-phenylpyridine cyclometalating (C^N) ligands (dtBubpy = 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridyl). Three of the complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. In cyclic voltammetry, the complexes undergo reversible oxidation of iridium(III) and irreversible reduction of the SF5 group. They emit bright green phosphorescence in acetonitrile solution and in thin films at room temperature, with emission maxima between 482–519 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 7…

Picosecond time-resolved study on the nature of high-energy-state quenching in isolated pea thylakoids different localization of zeaxanthin dependent…

1996

Abstract The influence of the transthylakoid proton gradient on the kinetics of picosecond fluorescence decay was examined using isolated pea thylakoids having high or low zeaxanthin contents. Fluorescence lifetime measurements were performed with open (Fo) and closed (Fm) PS II reaction centers. Zeaxanthin formation in membrane energized isolated thylakoids led to a marked decrease of the average fluorescence lifetime at both Fm and Fo. In contrast, when zeaxanthin synthesis was blocked by the inhibitor DTT, the fluorescence lifetime decrease was less pronounced in the Fm state and totally missing in the Fo state. Samples containing the uncoupler ammonium chloride did not exhinit any zeaxa…

Quorum-sensing active particles with discontinuous motility

2019

We develop a dynamic mean-field theory for polar active particles that interact through a self-generated field, in particular one generated through emitting a chemical signal. While being a form of chemotactic response, it is different from conventional chemotaxis in that particles discontinuously change their motility when the local concentration surpasses a threshold. The resulting coupled equations for density and polarization are linear and can be solved analytically for simple geometries, yielding inhomogeneous density profiles. Specifically, here we consider a planar and circular interface. Our theory thus explains the observed coexistence of dense aggregates with an active gas. There…

Single and Coupled Electrochemical Processes and Reactors for the Abatement of Organic Water Pollutants: A Critical Review.

2015

Traditional physicochemical and biological techniques, as well as advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), are often inadequate, ineffective, or expensive for industrial water reclamation. Within this context, the electrochemical technologies have found a niche where they can become dominant in the near future, especially for the abatement of biorefractory substances. In this critical review, some of the most promising electrochemical tools for the treatment of wastewater contaminated by organic pollutants are discussed in detail with the following goals: (1) to present the fundamental aspects of the selected processes; (2) to discuss the effect of both the main operating parameters and the rea…

A Comparative Study of Poly(Azure A) Film-Modified Disposable Electrodes for Electrocatalytic Oxidation of H₂O₂: Effect of Doping Anion.

2018

In the present paper, poly(azure A) (PAA) films were electrosynthetized in the presence of different doping anions on disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs). The anions used included inorganic monoatomic (chloride and fluoride), inorganic polyatomic (nitrate and sulfate) and organic polyatomic (dodecyl sulfate, DS) species. The coated electrodes thus obtained were characterized by electrochemical techniques and SEM. They showed improved electrocatalytic activities towards hydrogen peroxide oxidation compared to that of a bare SPCE. In particular, the insertion of DS anions inside PAA films provided a special sensitivity to the electrocatalysis of H2O2, which endowed these elect…

Polarographic determination of tyrosinase activity in enzymatic reaction with tyrosine as a substrate

2003

A voltammetric investigation of tyrosinase activity is proposed as an alternative to the spectrophotometric method. Voltammetric approach provides low detection limit, high sensitivity and resistivity to the solution inhomogenity, as well as enables one to simultaneously monitor the dioxygen consumption in the reaction, which is an additional indicator of the tyrosinase enzymatic activity.
