SnCo nanowire array as negative electrode for lithium-ion batteries

2011

Abstract Amorphous SnCo alloy nanowires (NWs) grown inside the channels of polycarbonate membranes by potentiostatic codeposition of the two metals (SnCo- PM ) were tested vs. Li by repeated galvanostatic cycles in ethylene carbonate-dimethylcarbonate – LiPF 6 for use as negative electrode in lithium ion batteries. These SnCo electrodes delivered an almost constant capacity value, near to the theoretical for an atomic ratio Li/Sn of 4.4 over more than 35 lithiation–delithiation cycles at 1 C. SEM images of fresh and cycled electrodes showed that nanowires remain partially intact after repeated lithiation–delithiation cycles; indeed, several wires expanded and became porous. Results of amorp…

Laser irradiation of ZnO:Al/Ag/ZnO:Al multilayers for electrical isolation in thin film photovoltaics

2013

Laser irradiation of ZnO:Al/Ag/ZnO:Al transparent contacts is investigated for segmentation purposes. The quality of the irradiated areas has been experimentally evaluated by separation resistance measurements, and the results are complemented with a thermal model used for numerical simulations of the laser process. The presence of the Ag interlayer plays two key effects on the laser scribing process by increasing the maximum temperature reached in the structure and accelerating the cool down process. These evidences can promote the use of ultra-thin ZnO:Al/ Ag/ZnO:Al electrode in large-area products, such as for solar modules. © 2013 Crupi et al.; licensee Springer.

"One-touch" voltammetry of microparticles for the identification of corrosion products in archaeological lead

2011

Voltammetry of microparticles is applied to the identification of lead corrosion products by means of an essentially non-invasive 'one-touch' technique based on the use of graphite pencil. This methodology permits the mechanical attachment of few nanograms of sample from the surface of lead archaeological artefacts to a paraffin-impregnated graphite electrode, which, upon immersion in aqueous electrolytes, provides distinctive voltammetric responses for litharge and cotunnite- anglesite-, cerusite-based corrosion products. The reported method is applied to the identification of corrosion products in archaeological lead pieces from different Iberian sites in Valencia (Spain). © 2011 WILEY-VC…

ELECTRODEPOSITION OF NOVEL POLY(NAPHTHALENEDIIMIDE-QUATERTHIOPHENE) THIN FILMS AND APPLICATIONS IN PLASTIC OPTOELECTRONICS DEVICES

2013

A novel symmetric naphthalenediimide-quaterthiophene derivative (NDIT4d) has been polymerized on different substrates including glassy carbon and ITO/PET electrodes by means of electrochemical methods. XPS and UV-VIS spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry have been employed for characterizing the thin film chemical features, the band gap and the HOMO and LUMO levels. DFT computational studies were in close agreement with the experimental observables also showing intriguing geometrical effects on the band gap energy values. The comparison of the energy levels locations of the electrodeposited poly(naphthalenediimide-quaterthiophene) derivative (e-PNDIT4) and P3HT thin films transferred b…

Regenerable ZnO/GaAs Bulk Acoustic Wave Biosensor for Detection of Escherichia coli in “Complex” Biological Medium

2021

A regenerable bulk acoustic wave (BAW) biosensor is developed for the rapid, label-free and selective detection of Escherichia coli in liquid media. The geometry of the biosensor consists of a GaAs membrane coated with a thin film of piezoelectric ZnO on its top surface. A pair of electrodes deposited on the ZnO film allows the generation of BAWs by lateral field excitation. The back surface of the membrane is functionalized with alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers and antibodies against E. coli. The antibody immobilization was investigated as a function of the concentration of antibody suspensions, their pH and incubation time, designed to optimize the immunocapture of bacteria. The perf…

Sputtered transparent electrodes for optoelectronic devices

2021

Summary Transparent electrodes and metal contacts deposited by magnetron sputtering find applications in numerous state-of-the-art optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells and light-emitting diodes. However, the deposition of such thin films may damage underlying sensitive device layers due to plasma emission and particle impact. Inserting a buffer layer to shield against such damage is a common mitigation approach. We start this review by describing how sputtered transparent top electrodes have become archetypal for a broad range of optoelectronic devices and then discuss the possible detrimental consequences of sputter damage on device performance. Next, we review common buffer-layer m…

Experimental approach of the interaction between a sub-microscopic cathode tip and the plasma

2007

The interaction between electrical arc and cathode represents a crucial problem in the conception of arc jet thrusters, circuit breakers, and plasma torch or arc heaters. At the cathode surface, the current and energy transfers are controlled by the current emitting site (cathodic spot). Theories and experimental observations, at macroscopic and mesoscopic scale, deal with the erosion of the cathodic surface. Under micrometer range, theories refer to the arc root to describe the erosion of the surface. The works presented here propose an original method to evaluate the arc-cathode interaction at micrometric scale. A nanotechnology is used in order to control the roughness of the electrode s…

Tenfold increase in efficiency from a reference blue OLED

2018

Abstract Starting from a reference single-layer light-emitting diode based on the blue phosphorescent bis-cyclometallated iridium complex FIrpic as guest, hosted in a PVK (non-conjugated poly(vynilcarbazole)) matrix, different strategies are followed to improve the efficiency of the devices through the combination of solution processed and evaporated layers. Injection of charges from the electrodes has been varied by using different conductive PEDOT: PSS as hole injection layer and a nanoscale Cs2CO3 interlayer as electron injection and hole-blocking film. Furthermore, a separated electron injection/hole blocking evaporated layer, TPBi or 3TPYMB, is introduced in double-layer devices to enh…
