Determination of time dependence of passive layer on nickel from instantaneous mass/charge function F(dm/dQ) in competitive passivation/dissolution c…
2006
Nickel metal deposited on gold electrodes was studied in the passivity range of potentials under potentiostatic conditions and in a weakly acid sulphate medium. Mass and current variations during electrochemical experiments were analysed with the help of the instantaneous mass/charge ratio (Fdm/dQ). This analysis allows to obtain the intensity current component associated to the formation of a passive layer of Ni(OH)2, and, in this way, the experimental thickness growth. These experimental findings have been fitted to a theoretical model based on the point defect model theory for obtaining the time dependence of the thickness of the passive layer during the first stages of growth of the pas…

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of conductor-insulator composite electrodes: properties in the blocking and diffusive regimes
1998
Abstract The electrochemical response of graphite + high-density polyethylene composite electrodes as a function of the conductivity load was investigated. Percolation theory was used in order to explain the electrochemical behaviour of this type of composite electrode. In the blocking regime the electrochemical impedance of this electrode material behaved as R 0 + q · ( ω j) − η , where R 0 represents the uncompensated resistance of the cell. Its value depended on the graphite volume proportion ( ν ) with a power law R 0 ∞ ( ν — ν c ) − t with a critical exponent t = 3.2 ± 0.1 which is close to the mean field value, t = 3. With potassium chloride concentrations greater than 0.7 M, the unco…
Computer simulation of oxygen tension histograms--a possibility for interpretation of microelectrode measurements.
1972
Role of image charges in ionic liquid confined between metallic interfaces.
2020
The peculiar properties of ionic liquids in confinement have not only become essential for energy storage, catalysis and tribology, but still pose fundamental questions. Recently, an anomalous liquid-solid phase transition has been observed in atomic force microscopy experiments for 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF4]), the transition being more pronounced for metallic surfaces. Image charges have been suggested as the key element driving the anomalous freezing. Using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate the impact of image charges on structure, dynamics and thermodynamics of [BMIM][BF4] confined between gold electrodes. Our results not only unveil…
Selective electrochemical discrimination between dopamine and phenethylamine-derived psychotropic drugs using electrodes modified with an acyclic rec…
2010
Electrochemical discrimination between dopamine and psychotropic drugs which have in common a skeletal structure of phenethylamine, can be obtained using acyclic receptors L(1) and L(2), containing two terminal 3-alkoxy-5-nitroindazole rings. Upon attachment to graphite electrodes, L(1) and L(2) exhibit a well-defined, essentially reversible solid state electrochemistry in contact with aqueous media, based on electrolyte-assisted reduction processes involving successive cation and anion insertion/binding. As a result, a distinctive, essentially Nernstian electrochemical response is obtained for phenethylammonium ions of methamphetamine (METH), p-methoxyamphetamine (PMA), amphetamine (AMPH),…
Control on the morphology and photoelectrocatalytic properties of ZnO nanostructures by simple anodization varying electrolyte composition
2021
Abstract Zinc oxide nanostructured electrodes were successfully synthesized by a simple method of anodization in different aqueous bicarbonate electrolytes. The influence of the anodization electrolyte composition (by adding ethanol or glycerol) on the morphology and the photoelectrocatalytic properties of the zinc oxide electrodes was studied, as well as the combined effect of anodizing under controlled hydrodynamic conditions. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) images of the ZnO electrodes showed that the addition of ethanol or glycerol to the anodization electrolyte resulted in changes in size and morphology of the nanostructures. Thus, ZnO nanowires, nanotubes, nanospo…
Photoelectrochemical characterization of amorphous anodic films on Ti-6at.%Si
2013
Abstract The solid state properties of anodic films grown galvanostatically on sputtering-deposited Ti–6at.%Si alloys were studied as a function of the formation voltage (5–40 V). From the photocurrent spectra a band gap of ∼3.4 eV was estimated for all the investigated thicknesses, which is almost coincident with the value measured for amorphous TiO 2 . The photocharacteristics allowed to estimate the flat band potential of the films, which resulted to be more anodic for thicker layers and allowed to evidence a change from n-type semiconducting material to insulator by increasing the formation voltage. A dielectric constant of ∼31 was estimated by differential capacitance measurements. The…
