Intrinsic nanostructures on the (001) surface of strontium titanate at low temperatures

2020

Atomically smooth (001) surfaces of SrTiO3 cut from the high-quality single crystals at two different miscut angles 0.9 and 7.0 deg between the real flat surfaces and crystallographic planes (001) were analyzed by means of the reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) method from the room down to liquid helium temperatures. The diffraction patterns typical of the RHEED geometry close to ideal for a small miscut angle and those exhibiting distinct features of the specific periodicity associated with regular steps, which form due to the larger miscut angle, are presented. The surface symmetry and energetics were shown to impose differences in lattice parameters in parallel to a surf…

Quasi-parallel precession diffraction: Alignment method for scanning transmission electron microscopes.

2018

Abstract A general method to set illuminating conditions for selectable beam convergence and probe size is presented in this work for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) fitted with µs/pixel fast beam scanning control, (S)TEM, and an annular dark field detector. The case of interest of beam convergence and probe size, which enables diffraction pattern indexation, is then used as a starting point in this work to add 100 Hz precession to the beam while imaging the specimen at a fast rate and keeping the projector system in diffraction mode. The described systematic alignment method for the adjustment of beam precession on the specimen plane while scanning at fast rates is mainly based on …

Superparamagnetic recoverable flowerlike Fe3O4@Bi2O3 core–shell with g-C3N4 sheet nanocomposite: synthesis, characterization, mechanism and kinetic s…

2019

In the present research study, a simple method was developed for the synthesis of three-dimensional flowerlike Fe3O4@Bi2O3 core–shell with g-C3N4 sheet nanocomposites. The X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electron microscope, vibrating sample magnetometer, dynamic laser scattering analyzer and UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy were employed for the characterization of structure, purity and morphology of the resultant samples. The degradation of indigo carmine as a model of organic dye pollutant is applied for photo-catalytic activity. The parameters which are affecting the efficiency of various parameters, such as;…

A consistent path for phase determination based on transmission electron microscopy techniques and supporting simulations.

2018

This work addresses aspects for the analysis of industrial relevant materials via transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The complex phase chemistry and structural diversity of these materials require several characterization techniques to be employed simultaneously; unfortunately, different characterization techniques often lack connection to yield a complete and consistent picture. This paper describes a continuous path, starting with the acquisition of 3D diffraction data - alongside classical high-resolution imaging techniques - and linking the structural characterization of hard metal industrial samples with energy-loss fine-structure simulations, quantitative electron energy-loss (EE…

Complex structural contribution of the morphotropic phase boundary in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 - CaTiO3 system

2019

Abstract The correlation between structure and dielectric properties of lead-free (1-x)Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 - xCaTiO3 ((1-x)NBT - xCT) polycrystalline ceramics was investigated systematically by X-ray diffraction, combined with impedance spectroscopy for dielectric characterizations. The system shows high miscibility in the entire composition range. A morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), at 0.09 ≤ x

Nonlinear optical response of bulk ZnO crystals with different content of intrinsic defects

2018

Abstract The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of native defect-rich ZnO single crystals were studied in details within the excitation of the continuous wave (CW) and pulsed laser radiation at 532 nm (2.33 eV). Analysis of the experimental data of optical elastic scattering, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), near infrared–visible–ultraviolet (NIR–Vis–UV) spectra recorded in reflection and absorption modes, and data of photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy confirmed the contribution of both intrinsic defects and their clusters, being determined before by neutron diffraction and XRD analysis. It was shown that the high sensitivity of the NLO diagnostics via self-action of a laser beam is due …

Early detection and classification of bearing faults using support vector machine algorithm

2017

Bearings are one of the most critical elements in rotating machinery systems. Bearing faults are the main reason for failures in electrical motors and generators. Therefore, early bearing fault detection is very important to prevent critical system failures in the industry. In this paper, the support vector machine algorithm is used for early detection and classification of bearing faults. Both time and frequency domain features are used for training the support vector machine learning algorithm. The trained classier can be employed for real-time bearing fault detection and classification. By using the proposed method, the bearing faults can be detected at early stages, and the machine oper…

Investigation and reduction of losses on inverter-fed induction motors

2017

An electric motor is more effective and flexible when supplied by a frequency converter. The frequency converter not only produces the fundamental voltage but also a set of higher harmonics which cause additional losses in the motor. Losses in the frequency converter are normally neglected in the drive dimensioning due to insufficient data available from manufacturers. Motor's losses can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency of frequency converters. An increase of the switching frequency may result in higher losses in the frequency converter. This work investigates analytically and experimentally the dependence of the losses of modern motor and frequency converter on a switching …

Modelling of expected B, C, N and O Lyman-α line intensities emitted from W7-X plasmas and measured by means of the W7-X light impurity monitor system

2021

AbstractThe “C/O Monitor” for Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) is a dedicated light impurity XUV spectrometer intended to measure Lyman-α transitions of hydrogen-like ions of four low-Z impurities—boron (4.9 nm), carbon (3.4 nm), nitrogen (2.5 nm) and oxygen (1.9 nm). Since the discussed diagnostic will deliver continuous information about the line intensities, it is crucial to understand the origin of the obtained signals with respect to the experimental plasma conditions (electron temperature and density). This, however, might be difficult because of the broad acceptance angle of the spectrometer and irregular shape of the plasma edge or SOL where the radiation is expected to mostly come from, depe…
