Automatic EMI filter design for power electronic converters oriented to high power density

2018

In this paper, a complete computer aided procedure based on the power density concept and aimed at the automatic design of EMI filters for power electronic converters is presented. It is rule-based, and it uses suitable databases built-up by considering information on passive components available from commercial datasheets. The power density constraint is taken into consideration by imposing the minimization of the filter volume and/or weight; nevertheless, the system in which the automatically designed filter is included satisfies the electromagnetic compatibility standards limits. Experimental validations of the proposed procedure are presented for two real case studies, for which the per…

Computer Aided Optimal Design of High Power Density EMI Filters

2016

Power density of power converter systems is becoming an increasingly stringent design constraint for a wide range of applications. Size reduction of EMI filter in power converters is an important aspect due to its significant impact on the overall converter volume and weight. In order to take on this issue, a computer aided procedure for a fast selection of optimal discrete EMI filter components and configuration is described in this paper. The proposed technique is a rule-based automatic procedure based on suitable databases that consider datasheets information of commercially available passive components (e.g. magnetic cores, capacitors). It allows the minimization of the filter's volume …

All-organic device with integrated chemical filter dedicated to the selective measurement of NO2 in air

2010

Abstract An original organic semiconductor gas sensor devoted to the selective monitoring of nitrogen dioxide in air has been successfully developed. This device combines the great sensitivity and the partial selectivity toward oxidizing gases of a molecular organic semiconductor, copper phthalocyanine, with the O3 filtering selectivity of an organic material, indigo. Experimental measurements highlight filtering yield of indigo close to 100% toward O3 and lower than 10% for NO2. Nanometric indigo layers were realized for the first time by thermal evaporation and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy. Such all-organic device exhibits a high NO2 sensitivity for low concentrations, a resolution…

Multipactor Analysis in Circular Waveguides

2009

[EN] This paper mainly focuses on demonstrating that a multipactor discharge can occur within a circular waveguide operating under the fundamental TE11 circular mode. Circular waveguides are widely used in the fabrication of many passive components, in order to implement resonant cavities as well as irises to connect adjacent guides for both application domains, particle accelerators and satellite subsystems applications. Thus, we present the first study of the multipactor effect in a circular waveguide, demonstrating its existence and providing a susceptibility chart for such a structure, which will be of great interest for the better understanding of multipactor physical phenomena.

A 21st century technique for food control: electronic noses.

2008

This work examines the main features of modern electronic noses (e-noses) and their most important applications in food control in this new century. The three components of an electronic nose (sample handling system, detection system, and data processing system) are described. Special attention is devoted to the promising mass spectrometry based e-noses, due to their advantages over the more classical gas sensors. Applications described include process monitoring, shelf-life investigation, freshness evaluation, authenticity assessment, as well as other general aspects of the utilization of electronic noses in food control. Finally, some interesting remarks concerning the strengths and weakn…

Note: A non-invasive electronic measurement technique to measure the embedded four resistive elements in a Wheatstone bridge sensor

2015

The work shows a measurement technique to obtain the correct value of the four elements in a resistive Wheatstone bridge without the need to separate the physical connections existing between them. Two electronic solutions are presented, based on a source-and-measure unit and using discrete electronic components. The proposed technique brings the possibility to know the mismatching or the tolerance between the bridge resistive elements and then to pass or reject it in terms of its related common-mode rejection. Experimental results were taken in various Wheatstone resistive bridges (discrete and magnetoresistive integrated bridges) validating the proposed measurement technique specially whe…

PPG/ECG Multisite Combo System Based on SiPM Technology

2019

Two versions of a PPG/ECG combined system have been realized and tested. In a first version a multisite system has been equipped by integrating 3 PPG optodes and 3 ECG leads, whereas in another setup a portable version has been carried out. Both versions have been realized by equipping the optical probes with SiPM detectors. SiPM technology is expected to bring relevant advantages in PPG systems and overcome the limitations of physiological information extracted by state of the art PPG, such as poor sensitivity of detectors used for backscattered light detection and motion artifacts seriously affecting the measurements repeatability and pulse waveform stability. This contribution presents t…

Ein Nadelelektroden-Isolationsverstärker für biomechanische Untersuchungen - An Isolation Amplifier for Biomechanical Investigations with Needle Elec…

1994

In our laboratory for biomechanics, a new isolation amplifier was developed with which to record the electromyographic activity of muscles inaccessible to surface electrodes, in particular that of the rotator cuff. Our basic premisses were maximum safety for the patient or subject investigated, and optimal signal processing. These were achieved by a triple galvanic separation of the patient/subject from the battery power supply and the signal cables and by careful selection of the electronic components.

Atypical transistor-based chaotic oscillators: Design, realization, and diversity

2017

In this paper, we show that novel autonomous chaotic oscillators based on one or two bipolar junction transistors and a limited number of passive components can be obtained via random search with suitable heuristics. Chaos is a pervasive occurrence in these circuits, particularly after manual adjustment of a variable resistor placed in series with the supply voltage source. Following this approach, 49 unique circuits generating chaotic signals when physically realized were designed, representing the largest collection of circuits of this kind to date. These circuits are atypical as they do not trivially map onto known topologies or variations thereof. They feature diverse spectra and predom…
