Measurement of the polarization in νμ charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment

2001

The Λ polarization in νμ charged current interactions has been measured in the NOMAD experiment. The event sample (8087 reconstructed Λ 's) is more than an order of magnitude larger than that of previous bubble chamber experiments, while the quality of event reconstruction is comparable. We observe negative polarization along the W -boson direction which is enhanced in the target fragmentation region: Px(xF 0)=−0.09±0.06(stat)±0.03(sys) . These results provide a test of different models describing the nucleon spin composition and the spin transfer mechanisms. A significant transverse polarization (in the direction orthogonal to the Λ production plane) has been observed for the first time in…

Level structure of170Er observed in the decay of the 2.76 min170Ho

1978

TheΒ−-decay of the longer-lived170Ho isomer produced through the170Er(n, p)170Ho reaction has been investigated by using a versastile detector and coincidence equipment. The half-life andΒ−-decay energy were determined to beT1/2=2.76±0.05 min andQβ =3.85±0.15 MeV, respectively. In addition to the ground state band and some higher energy levels, the proposed level scheme of170Er contains 11 states between 1.0 and 1.6 MeV (6 new ones), which are connected mutually by previously unknown low-energy transitions. Spin and/or parity assignments based mainly on coincidence data and multipolarity determinations are suggested for most of these states. By using systematic considerations and the nuclea…

Spin and magnetic moment of23Mg

2017

A negative magnetic moment of 23Mg has been determined by collinear laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE. The absolute value is in agreement with previous measurements by nuclear magnetic resonance while the sign points at high-seniority configurations. The result is consistent with shell-model predictions for nuclei with valence nucleons in the sd shell. ispartof: Journal of Physics G, Nuclear and Particle Physics vol:44 issue:7 status: published

Observation of inclusiveD*±production in the decay ofΥ(1S)

2010

We present a study of the inclusive D*(+/-) production in the decay of Y(1S) using (98.6 +/- 0.9) X 10(6) Y(2S) mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(2S) resonance. Using the decay chain Y(2S) -> pi(+)pi Y-(1S), Y(1S) -> D*X-+/-, where X is unobserved, we measure the branching fraction B[Y(1S) -> D*X-+/-] = (2.52 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.15(syst)% and the D*(+/-) momentum distribution in the rest frame of the Y(1S). We find evidence for an excess of D*+/- production over the expected rate from the virtual photon annihilation process Y(1S) -> gamma* -> c (c) over bar -> D*X-+/-.

J/ψ production as a function of charged particle multiplicity in pp collisions at s =7 TeV

2012

The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of the relative J/psi yield as a function of charged particle pseudorapidity density dN(ch)/d eta in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV at the LHC. J/psi particles are detected for p(t) > 0, in the rapidity interval vertical bar y vertical bar 0. In the highest multiplicity interval with (dN(ch)/d eta)(bin)) = 24.1, corresponding to four times the minimum bias multiplicity density, an enhancement relative to the minimum bias J/psi yield by a factor of about 5 at 2.5 < y <4 (8 at vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) is observed. Dynamically generatedN*andΛ*resonances in the hidden charm sector around 4.3 GeV

2011

The interactions of $\mathrm{D\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}$-$\mathrm{D\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}$, ${\mathrm{D\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}}^{*}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}$-${\mathrm{D\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}}^{*}{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}$, and related strangeness channels, are studied within the framework of the coupled-channel unitary approach with the local hidden gauge formalism. A series of meson-baryon dynamically generated relatively narrow ${N}^{*}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{*}$ resonances are predicted around 4.3 GeV in the hidden charm sector. We make estimates of production cross sections of these predicted res…

Measurement ofZγproduction inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2010

The production rate and kinematics of photons produced in association with Z bosons are studied using 2 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collision data collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross section for p{bar p} {yields} {ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -}{gamma} + X (where the leptons {ell} are either muons or electrons with dilepton mass M{sub {ell}{ell}} > 40 GeV/c{sup 2}, and where the photon has transverse energy E{sub T}{sup {gamma}} > 7 GeV and is well separated from the leptons) is 4.6 {+-} 0.2 (stat) {+-} 0.3 (syst) {+-} 0.3 (lum) pb, which is consistent with standard model expectations. We use the photon ET distribution from Z{gamma} events where the Z has decayed to {mu}{sup +}{mu}…

Dispersive analysis ofKLμ3andKLe3scalar and vector form factors using KTeV data

2010

Using the published KTeV samples of K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}e{sup {-+}}{nu} and K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}{mu}{sup {-+}}{nu} decays, we perform a reanalysis of the scalar and vector form factors based on the dispersive parameterization. We obtain phase space integrals I{sub K}{sup e} = 0.15446 {+-} 0.00025 and I{sub K}{sup {mu}} = 0.10219 {+-} 0.00025. For the scalar form factor parameterization, the only free parameter is the normalized form factor value at the Callan-Treiman point (C); our best fit results in ln C = 0.1915 {+-} 0.0122. We also study the sensitivity of C to different parametrizations of the vector form factor. The results for the phase space integrals and C a…

Search for Z0 decays to two leptons and a charged particle-antiparticle pair

1993

Based on a sample equivalent to 365 000 hadronic Z0 decays, the search in DELPHI data for pairs of leptons accompanied by a pair of charged particles is described. A total of 11 events were found in the electron channel, 9 in the muon channel and 7 in the tau channel. Results on lepton pairs with a radiated photon are also presented. The data from all channels are compatible with the expectations from standard processes. However, one event was found in the tau channel with an unusually high mass of the charged particle pair.

Beta-delayed neutrons and high-energy gamma-rays from decay of137I

1980

Beta-delayed neutrons and high-energyγ-rays following decay of137I have been studied in order to characterizeβ-decay to and deexcitation of neutron-unbound levels in137Xe. The totalγ-ray intensity observed accounts for at least 20% of theβ-intensity to levels aboveB n . No evidence was found for neutron andγ-ray emission from the same levels. With the experimentalβ-strength function aboveB n detailed tests were performed on the reproduction of the experimental neutron spectrum, the level density and Porter-Thomas fluctuations of the reducedβ-transition probabilities to highly excited states in137Xe.
