Objective Clinical perfectionism has been found to be a risk and maintaining factor in eating disorders (EDs), compulsive exercise, and athlete burnout. This study investigated whether an unguided internet cognitive–behavioral treatment (ICBT) for perfectionism would reduce ED pathology, compulsive exercise, and burnout in individuals who engage in regular exercise. Method Participants were randomly allocated to intervention (n = 38) or waitlist control (n =29). A generalized linear mixed model (GLMM) analysis was conducted pre and post treatment. This article discusses an experiment which we are conducting in the field of Finnish as a second language. We are developing an Internet-based program that learners of Finnish can use to assess their own writing skills. The program code originally comes from the DIALANG project, which is developing a diagnostic language assessment system for 14 languages for the Internet. We selected two new writing tasks for the program, and constructed related sets of benchmark performances to enable the learners to assess their own abilities. The present special issue includes single and multiple case studies which report on the phenomenon of ‘paradoxical’ outcomes in psychotherapy, operationalized as discordant outcome assessments within the same case. In an attempt to find ground for my published response, I endeavored to juxtaposition the cases from the different studies, and by doing that gain an overview of the contributions and arguments. Itsearviointi on merkittävä osa kieltenoppimista, sillä sen avulla oppilaat voivat muun muassa huomata vahvuutensa ja heikkoutensa, kehittää itseään tarvittavilla osa-alueilla, sekä asettaa itselleen realistisia opiskelutavoitteita. Tässä tutkimuksessa on tarkasteltu varhaisnuorten tunteiden tunnistamista suoriutumistilanteissa. Subjektiivisesti ja objektiivisesti mitattujen tunteiden vastaavuuksia tarkasteltiin ottaen huomioon tehtävien vaikeustaso ja esittämisjärjestys, oppilaan kognitiivinen kykytaso, ylivilkkauden pulmat sekä tunteiden huippuhetket ja aallonpohjat. Tutkimus on toteutettu osana syksyllä 2013 käynnistynyttä TIKAPUU – Alakoulusta yläkouluun – tutkimushanketta, johon osallistuu 55 koululuokkaa kahdesta Keski-Suomen kunnasta. AbstractIn this chapter, we analyse the features of textbooks that enable and facilitate their role as material agents in the classroom. Rather than analyse the ways textbooks are used in interaction with humans, we analyse the elements in the textbook itself that facilitate intra-action and the ensuing material agency. Based on a discursive analysis of self-assessment in one textbook and discussing that construct against the Finnish national core curriculum and previous research, we present an ‘ideal imaginary’ of classroom activities as construed in the textbook.
