Predicting the environmental suitability for onchocerciasis in Africa as an aid to elimination planning

2021

Recent evidence suggests that, in some foci, elimination of onchocerciasis from Africa may be feasible with mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin. To achieve continental elimination of transmission, mapping surveys will need to be conducted across all implementation units (IUs) for which endemicity status is currently unknown. Using boosted regression tree models with optimised hyperparameter selection, we estimated environmental suitability for onchocerciasis at the 5 × 5-km resolution across Africa. In order to classify IUs that include locations that are environmentally suitable, we used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis to identify an optimal threshold for suitabil…

Safety of a 3-weekly schedule of carboplatin plus pegylated liposomal doxorubicin as first line chemotherapy in patients with ovarian cancer: prelimi…

2006

Abstract Background The MITO-2 (Multicentre Italian Trials in Ovarian cancer) study is a randomized phase III trial comparing carboplatin plus paclitaxel to carboplatin plus pegylated liposomal doxorubicin in first-line chemotherapy of patients with ovarian cancer. Due to the paucity of published phase I data on the 3-weekly experimental schedule used, an early safety analysis was planned. Methods Patients with ovarian cancer (stage Ic-IV), aged 2, every 3 weeks or to carboplatin AUC 5 plus pegylated liposomal doxorubicin 30 mg/m2, every 3 weeks. Treatment was planned for 6 cycles. Toxicity was coded according to the NCI-CTC version 2.0. Results The pre-planned safety analysis was performed…

Preliminary report of a multicentric study on environmental risk factors in Ta-T1 transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder

2006

Objective: The distribution of potential environmental risk factors among patients affected by superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB) has been analyzed. Methods: Patients affected by superficial TCCB underwent TUR and early intravesical chemotherapy. Detailed data about age, sex, residence, employment, active and passive cigarette smoking, water resource and hair dye use were centralized. Analysis has been conducted on 474 patients affected by Ta-T1 G1-2 TCCB at medium risk for recurrence. Patients with primary single Ta G1-2, Tis or T1G3 tumors were excluded from the present analysis. Results: Over 80% of the p…

Metabolic Response Assessment in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients after Platinum-Based Therapy: A Preliminary Analysis

2015

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) for early prediction of tumor response to platinum-based therapy in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The evaluation was carried out comparing the standard treatment response using RECIST (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors) with metabolic treatment response according to European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) recommendations, PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST), Total Lesion Glycolysis (TLG) and Metabolic Tumor Volume (MTV). Seventeen inoperable patients with stage IV NSCLC were enrolled between October 2011 and June 2013: PET st…

Baseline absolute neutrophil count (ANC), derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and outcome in non sma…

2017

Nivolumab (N) is a novel therapeutic option in NSCLC, with a significant survival gain compared with Docetaxel (D). However, predictive biomarkers are lacking and no strategies have been adopted to date for optimal patients (pts) selection. The presence of systemic inflammation has been correlated with poor outcome in many cancer types. We aimed to evaluate whether there is a correlation between some indicators of inflammation and response in pts treated with N or D.

A study of the influence of ionic liquids properties on the Kemp elimination reaction

2009

The morpholino-induced elimination of 5-nitrobenzisoxazole into the relevant 2-cyano-4-nitrophenolate has been used as a sample reaction in order to investigate molecular properties of some room temperature ionic liquids. The kinetic study was carried out at 298 K by means of spectrophotometric measurements. Ionic liquids, which differ in both their cation and anion properties, were used as solvent systems. In particular, aliphatic (pyrrolidinium, piperidinium, and ammonium) and aromatic (imidazolium and pyridinium) ionic liquids were used. For aromatic cations, imidazolium ions having different hydrogen-bond donor ability or a different alkyl-chain length were taken into account. The anion…

Carbon–Phosphorus Coupling from C^N Cyclometalated Au III Complexes

2020

Abstract With the aim of exploiting new organometallic species for cross‐coupling reactions, we report here on the AuIII‐mediated Caryl−P bond formation occurring upon reaction of C^N cyclometalated AuIII complexes with phosphines. The [Au(C^N)Cl2] complex 1 featuring the bidentate 2‐benzoylpyridine (CCON) scaffold was found to react with PTA (1,3,5‐triaza‐7‐phosphaadamantane) under mild conditions, including in water, to afford the corresponding phosphonium 5 through C−P reductive elimination. A mechanism is proposed for the title reaction based on in situ 31P{1H} NMR and HR‐ESI‐MS analyses combined with DFT calculations. The C−P coupling has been generalized to other C^N cyclometalated Au…

A preliminary analysis in the preparation and obturation of oval canals

2011

Objective: 1) to observe the appearance of uninstrumented recesses in oval canals after instrumentation using circumferential filing. 2) To determine the quality of obturation both with cold lateral compaction and thermo plasticized gutta-percha technique in these recesses Study design: Twenty non-carious, freshly extracted human mandibular incisors with single canals were divided into group I (n=10) and group II (n=10) according to the two different obturation methods. The sectioned roots were prepared with flexofiles (Dentsply, Maillefer) ranging from #15 to #40 by using circumferential filing. The obturated specimens were horizontally sectioned at 5 mm from the apex. Each section was obs…
