Intraoral epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: a case report and review of the literature.

2009

The epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EH) is an uncommon angiocentric neoplasm of borderline or intermediate malignant potential, between the hemangioma and conventional angiosarcoma. It is characterized by the proliferation of endothelial cells with epithelioid or histiocitóide morphology with vacuolated cytoplasm and occasional eosinophilic spindle cells. Shows potential for local recurrence as well as the ability to metastasize. Rarely affects the oral cavity, it have been described from 1975 until 2008 only 27 oral cases. Morphologically the EHs may be confused with other lesions, from a hemangioma to a squamous cell carcinoma, and thus immunohistochemical analysis is required. This pap…

Oral encapsulated vascular malformation: an undescribed presentation in the mouth

2016

Vascular lesions have been classified in two broad categories, hemangiomas and malformations. Encapsulated vascular lesions have not been reported in the oral cavity, but they were described in other sites, mainly in the orbit. Herein, we present a case of an oral encapsulated vascular lesion located in the right buccal mucosa of a 69-year-old male, including histological and immunohistochemical description and a literature review. Key words:Buccal mucosa, hemangioma, vascular malformation, oral cavity.

Acquired elastotic hemangioma-like changes and eccrine sweat duct squamous metaplasia in lichen simplex chronicus/prurigo nodularis-like lesions of t…

2017

Background The so-called acquired elastotic hemangioma (AEH) represents a peculiar vascular lesion affecting the sun-damaged skin of the extensor surface of the forearms or the lateral aspect of the neck of middle-aged or elderly women. Methods This is a clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study of a series of 6 lesions located on the knee or elbow showing epithelial features of lichen simplex chronicus (LSC)/prurigo nodularis (PN) with a marked subepidermal vascular proliferation closely resembling AEH. Results Microscopically, all cases of cutaneous lesions showed epithelial features of LSC/PN, that is compact hyperkeratosis with focal parakeratosis, irregular acanthosis, prominen…

Comprehensive three‐dimensional morphology of neoangiogenesis in pulmonary veno‐occlusive disease and pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis

2019

Abstract Pulmonary veno‐occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare lung disease characterized by fibrotic narrowing of pulmonary veins leading to pulmonary hypertension (PH) and finally to death by right heart failure. PVOD is often accompanied by pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis (PCH), a marked abnormal proliferation of pulmonary capillaries. Both morphological patterns often occur together and are thought to be distinct manifestations of the same disease process and accordingly are classified together in group 1′ of the Nice classification of PH. The underlying mechanisms of these aberrant remodeling processes remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the three‐dimensional struc…

Le pneumocytome sclérosant : une tumeur rare et apparemment bénigne

2020

International audience; Introduction: Sclerosing pneumocytoma is a benign and rare lung tumor affecting epithelial cells. In most cases, patients are asymptomatic and the diagnosis is made on an X ray or a CT scan performed for other enquiry. Sex ratio favors women. Epidemiological studies report that middle-aged Asian women are more frequently affected. Radiological investigations find a solitary nodule or a mass with peripheric localization. When performed, histological analysis shows a tumor composed of at least two of the four following architectures: papillary, sclerosing, hemangiomatous and solid, with two types of cells that can be round or cubic cells.Cases report: We report two cas…

A rare case of pedunculated bronchial hemangioma

2009

We describe a rare case of pedunculated endobronchial hemangioma observed in a 60 years old patient complaining of chronic productive cough and accessional dyspnea which had been progressively worsening over 20 years. The lesion was first noticed at fiberoptic bronchoscopy; then computed tomography scan was performed and integrated with tridimensional reconstruction techniques. Pathology showed the picture of a vascular neoplasm, compatible with capillary hemangioma. The lesion was submitted to laser-assisted endoscopic removal in order to relieve the obstruction, leading to remission of symptoms.

Insuficiencia respiratoria aguda como primera manifestación de lesiones del tronco cerebral

1999

We describe three patients with different brainstem lesions (bulbar angioma, bulbar infarct, and Arnold-Chiari malformation) who debuted with acute respiratory insufficiency. Other neurological manifestations had gone unobserved in all three cases. Respiratory insufficiency worsened notably during sleep to the point that mechanical ventilation was required or death occurred (Ondine s curse). The patient with a bulbar angioma is stable with only assisted ventilation by a nasal route at night, with good quality of life. Our conclusions are that: a) central nervous system anomalies need to be investigated as possible causes of respiratory insufficiency when lungs are normal; b) the respiratory…
