Microspore Embryogenesis in Citrus

This chapter deals with microspore embryogenesis in Citrus. Microspore embryogenesis allows to induce immature gametes (microspores) and to deviate them, in this case, the male one, from the normal gametophytic developmental route in the direction of the sporophytic one, yielding homozygous organisms (embryos and plants).

Blastomere fate and embryonic genome activation (EGA) during human embryonic development are unsolved areas of high scientific and clinical interest. Forty-nine blastomeres from 5- to 8-cell human embryos have been investigated following an efficient single-cell cDNA amplification protocol to provide a template for high-density microarray analysis. The previously described markers, characteristic of Inner Cell Mass (ICM) (n = 120), stemness (n = 190) and Trophectoderm (TE) (n = 45), were analyzed, and a housekeeping pattern of 46 genes was established. Two homeobox-containing genes that belong to different homeodomain classes have been isolated from a sea urchin geonomic library. One, PlHbox11, is the sea urchin homologue of the human and mouse Hox B3 gene, the other, PlHbox12, shows about 55% identity with paired class genes. Expression profile analysis of the two sea urchin Hbox genes suggests that they play different roles during embryogenesis. In fact, PlHbox11 transcripts are rare and are detected only in the pluteus larva and in the Aristotle's lantern and intestine of the adult. Objective TIF2 is fused with MOZ in the inv(8)(p11q13) acute myeloid leukemia. TIF2, member of the p160 family, is a histone acetyl transferase (HAT). Deletion of p160 genes were performed in mice. Some observations suggest that p160 family members may perform overlapping functions in mice. Therefore, we decided to choose the zebrafish model to study TIF2. The aim of this study was to characterize the role of this HAT during embryonic development. The European spindle tree (Euonymus europaeus L. Celastraceae) is a shrubby tree widely distributed in temperate regions of western European countries from the northern part of France to St. Petersburg and the western part of Russia. The Celastraceae comprises 55 genera, including at least 850 known species of trees and shrubs which are found in tropical and temperate regions.
