One of the first areas severely hit by the Covid-19 pandemic was international travel. In March/April, with commercial flights coming to a near halt, the governments were struggling to help their stranded citizens to return home. This article analyses the relationships between emigration and Official Development Aid (ODA) policies, taking the cases of Spain and Morocco as the backdrop to the study. It discusses the principal characteristics of both the Spanish state and non-governmental cooperation in Morocco, the underlying motivations of the principal stakeholders, and the way international cooperation policies now encompass the phenomenon of emigration. This study explores how social inclusion and exclusion manifest as a dynamic continuum in the everyday lived realities of irregular migrants. Based on narratives of Iraqi Kurdish asylum seekers, who were eventually deported from Finland, the analysis depicts the ways in which societal structures, personal negotiations as well as relationships and social networks interplay in lives characterized by multiple locations, transitions and positions. The article presents Ricarda Huchs attitude towards the dictatorship of natio- nal socialism in Germany, from which the writer officially disbanded herself in 1933 by resigning from the membership of the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts and concluding at the same time that the Germanness in her opinion does not mean centralization of power, brutal methods and diffusion of people who think differently. Wskazane zostały powody wyjazdów oraz zakres działalności polskiej diaspory (politycznej, naukowej, kulturalnej, rzemieślniczej). To niewielkie terytorialnie, federacyjne państwo w zachodniej Europie było krajem wielkich możliwości. Znaleźli w nim schronienie, a nawet nowy dom i drugą ojczyznę znani z pierwszych stron podręczników tak wybitni Polacy, jak Kościuszko, Sienkiewicz, Paderewski czy Narutowicz.
