The Vocationalisation of University Programmes in France: its Consequences for Employability and Mobility

2011

France has a multi-track higher education system which includes four key components: Grandes Ecoles, short vocational training tracks, specialised higher education institutions (in social work, healthcare and the arts), and universities. Access to higher education is traditionally defined by the contrast between universities (which enrol all holders of the baccalaureat without any selection process) and the extremely selective Grandes Ecoles. Personal Employability and employment outcomes in a university sample: a study before and after COVID-19

2021

[EN] Labour market uncertainty makes difficult to get (and keep) a high-quality job even for graduate students. Moreover, this situation has been worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study is to test the influence that personal employability has on maintaining (or being able to find a new) high-quality job in a sample of young university graduates that faced the job market crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We focus on the four personal employability dimensions of Fugate et al.’s (2004) model: career identity, personal adaptability, human capital, and social capital. Our hypotheses state that the four dimensions of employability are positively related with employment …

Heterogeneity of job seekers in labour market matching

2009

This study examines the matching of heterogeneous job seekers and vacant jobs. Job seekers are divided into four employability groups according to their labour market status. The dataset consists of highly disaggregated monthly data from 146 Local Labour Offices in Finland over 14 years. The results indicate that the employability of job seekers differs. Therefore, the composition of the pool of job seekers in a local labour market affects the ability of that market to form successful matches. The long-term unemployed have a negative effect on matches while job seekers out of the labour force notably improve the production of matches.
