Structural invariance and stability of sense of coherence: A longitudinal analysis of two groups with different employment experiences

2005

This 5-year follow-up study investigated the structure and the factorial invariance of the 13-item sense of coherence (SOC) scale (Antonovsky, 1987a) in two employment groups (unemployment/lay-off experiences vs. continuous full-time employment) and across two measurement times. In addition, the stability of SOC between these two employment groups was compared. The postal questionnaire data was collected twice, in 1992 and in 1997. The participants were Finnish technical designers (N=352) aged between 25 and 40 years in 1992. A total of 51% of the investigated participants had been employed full-time during the 5-year follow-up period and 49% had been unemployed and/or laid off for a total …

Unemployment and Migration: Does Moving Help?

2002

Abstract The migration behaviour of the unemployed in Finland is analysed in terms of the causal effectof moving on individual employment status. In 1994, 17 percent of the labour force wasunemployed and the unemployment rate exhibited a very slow decline in 1994–1996. Overhalf of those who were unemployed at the end of 1994 were still unemployed two years later. The propensity to find a job is somewhat greater among migrants. However, the positive effectof moving diminishes once other personal characteristics are accounted for. Moreover, whencontrolling for endogenous migrant selectivity, an insignificant or even negative effect onemployment status emerges. This indicates that the relatively …

Protocol: Literature review on the psychometric properties of the short versions of the scales of social desirability in the answers to competency se…

2018

[EN] Research in business organization in general and talent management (in university or professional students) uses in many cases self-administered questionnaires as a source of data to assess people's competencies. In clinical psychology, it has been shown that self-evaluations of behaviors may present a bias of social desirability. However, even in this field of research it is not usual to measure its effect when taking data. Our work proposes a protocol to find a set of scales of social desirability (SD) with less than 20 items that are valid and reliable. We also intend to identify if SD scales are associated with the self-assessments of some transversal competences.

Employment contract, job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being: The role of self- and collective efficacy

2018

A large amount of research has focused on job insecurity, but without obtaining consistent results. Some authors have pointed that this variability might be due to the operationalization of job insecurity. Different types of job insecurity can provoke different employee reactions. The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of job insecurity, understood as temporary employment (objective job insecurity) and personal perception (subjective job insecurity), on affective well-being. In addition, the moderator roles of job self-efficacy and collective efficacy are examined in the relationship between job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being. This study was carried out with 1435 emp…

Internet-Based Employer Search and Vacancy Duration: Evidence from Finland

2014

This study investigates the effect of the introduction of the public employment agency's Internet-based service on the duration of employer search. The analysis exploits the introduction of a web-based service by the Finnish Employment Agency in October 2002. The results, based on information on job vacancies announced via the public employment agency between 2002 and 2003, indicate that the introduction of the web service, in general, shortened the duration of employer search. However, we find that the introduction of the web-based service shortened the average duration of vacancies in some regions but not in others. In addition, employers in urban areas were more likely to benefit from th…

Transformations in Lifelong Guidance Provision

2012

In this chapter, the transformations taking place at the different levels of guidance provision are analyzed. The aim was to provide a tool to examine the interface between multisectoral guidance practice and policy development. On the basis of earlier research on regional guidance networks, a model is introduced in which schools, social, health, and public employment services can jointly design, implement, and evaluate guidance services. The model for Networked Guidance Service Provision (NEGSEP) focuses separately on the developmental needs of guidance services visible to clients, both with regard to service delivery and strategic dimensions. Along this line, a framework for networked gui…

Settore IUS/07 - Diritto Del LavoroArt. 32 L. 183/2010 raises several questions related to its application mainly due to its poor drafting. This essay analyses the controversial issue of the meaning of paragraph 4 letter c) and letter d) which concern respectively the transfer of the employment contract in accordance with Art. 2112 Civil Code and the creation and/or the ascertaining of an employment relationship with someone other than the holder of the contract. The Author provides the coordinates for a proper and duly restrictive understanding of the norms on limitation in the light of its literal interpretation and in accordance with EU law.
