Assessment of the aesthetic impact and quality of life of home dental bleaching in adult patients
2020
Background This study aimed to evaluate the impact of home bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide on the quality of life and aesthetic perception of patients. Material and methods A total of 107 patients between 18 and 38 years of age with good oral and general health and at least one anterior tooth in color A2 or darker were selected. Patients who previously underwent any type of bleaching procedures were excluded. All patients received a home bleaching treatment with 10% carbamide peroxide. Before beginning the bleaching treatment, the selected patients responded a form with the Oral Health Impact Profile short form (OHIP-14) and Oral Aesthetic Subjective Impact Scale (OASIS) questionnaire…
Analysis of the physicochemical properties, cytotoxicity and volumetric changes of AH Plus, MTA Fillapex and TotalFill BC Sealer
2020
Background To evaluate the physicochemical properties and cytotoxicity of AH Plus, MTA Fillapex and TotalFill BC Sealer. Volumetric changes were also evaluating using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Material and Methods Radiopacity and flow were evaluated in accordance with the ISO 6876, while setting time was evaluated in accordance with the ASTM- C266-08 specifications. The release of Ca2+ ions and pH were measured with spectrophotometer and pH meter, respectively, after different time intervals (1h, 3h, 24h, 72h, 168h, and 360h). Cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT reduction assay to check 3T3 cells viability at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Volumetric change was evaluated by micro-CT, by usi…
Evaluation of the penetration of CHX 2% on dentinal tubules using Conventional Irrigation, Sonic Irrigation (EDDY) and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation …
2021
Background Various procedures and techniques have been developed to increase the effectiveness and penetration of irrigants into the dentinal tubules and anatomical anfractuosities. Objective: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the effect of different irrigation techniques such as conventional irrigation with a syringe, sonic activation irrigation with EDDY and Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation. All these on dentinal tubule penetration using Chlorhexidine. Material and methods 45 lower premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons were used. These teeth were decoronated to a length of 18mm. This working length was achieved by inserting a size 15 K file into the root canal unti…

Removal of failed crown and bridge
2011
Crown and bridge have life span of many years but they fail for a number of reasons. Over the years, many devices have been designed to remove crowns and bridges from abutment teeth. While the removal of temporary crowns and bridges is usually very straightforward, the removal of a definitive cast crown with unknown cement is more challenging. Removal is often by destructive means. There are a number of circumstances, however, in which conservative disassembly would aid the practitioner in completing restorative/endodontic procedures. There are different mechanisms available to remove a failed crown or bridge. But there is no information published about the classification of available syste…
Photobiomodulation therapy and endodontic treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis using 940-nm diode laser. Report of two cases
2022
Background: Diode laser (DL) can be used in endodontics both for its bactericidal effect inside the root canal system (RCS) and for photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) to accelerate the repair of periradicular bone tissue. Clinical Cases: This work presents two cases of pulp necrosis/asymptomatic apical periodontitis (AAP) that were treated with 940-nm DL, administered both to disinfect the root canal and to apply PBMT to the periradicular tissues. The cases were analysed by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). Discussion: DL has become widely accepted due to its high antimicrobial effectiveness and its ability to accelerate the repair of large apical lesions by biostimulation. Nevertheless,…
Dental stem cell signaling pathway activation in response to hydraulic calcium silicate-based endodontic cements: A systematic review of in vitro stu…
2020
Abstract Objective To present a qualitative synthesis of in vitro studies which analyzed human dental stem cell (DSC) molecular signaling pathway activation in response to hydraulic calcium silicate-based cements (HCSCs). Methods A systematic electronic search was performed in Medline, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science and SciELO databases on January 20 and last updated on March 20, 2020. In vitro studies assessing the implication of signaling pathways in activity related marker (gene/protein) expression and mineralization induced by HCSCs in contact with human DSCs were included. Results The search identified 277 preliminary results. After discarding duplicates, and screening of titles, abstr…
Use of high- and low-intensity lasers in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity: A literature review
2021
Background Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is defined as an exaggerated sensitivity of vital dentin exposed to thermal, chemical and tactile stimuli. This study aimed to evaluate, through a literature review, the applicability of high- and low-intensity lasers in the treatment of DH for the past 10 years, as well as its therapeutic potential. Material and methods The electronic databases MEDLINE/PubMed and LILACS were searched using the descriptors ("Dentin Sensitivity" OR "Dentin Hypersensitivity") AND ("Low-Level Therapy" OR Laser), for articles published between 2010 and 2020. Only randomized clinical trials with full-text and full case resolution were included. Results We found 187 article…
Prognostic Factors after Endodontic Microsurgery: A Retrospective Study of 111 Cases with 5 to 9 Years of Follow-up
2021
A study was performed of the healing rate of teeth subjected to endodontic microsurgery after a minimum follow-up of 5 years with an analysis of the influence of different pre- and postoperative factors on the outcome. This was a retrospective study of patients subjected to endodontic microsurgery with the use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) for retrograde filling between January 2011 and December 2015. In patients with multiple treated teeth, only 1 random tooth was selected for the statistical analysis. Clinical and radiographic parameters were used to assess healing. Simple binary logistic regression models were used to analyze the influence of patient age and sex, the type of tooth, …
The Effect of Age, Gender, and Insertion Site on Marginal Bone Loss around Endosseous Implants: Results from a 3-Year Trial with Premium Implant Syst…
2014
Objectives. The goal of this study was to evaluate bone changes around endosseous implants in partially edentulous patients.Materials and Methods.A total of 632 two-stage implants were placed in 252 patients. The implants had straight emergence profile, ZirTi surface, 3.3 to 5 mm diameter, and 8.5 to 13 mm length. Bone levels were assessed on orthopantomography immediately after surgery and after 36 months and marginal bone loss (MBL) was calculated from their difference.Results.Cumulative survival rate was 98.73%. Overall MBL was 0.8 mm ± 0.03 (mean ± SEM). Higher MBL was observed around implants in the maxilla than in the mandible (P<0.007). A relation between implant diameter and MBL (…
