Talent Competitiveness and Competitiveness through Talent

2014

Abstract The current economic environment makes us acknowledge that the human factor is the most critical resource for all national economies which aspire to improve their competitiveness and innovativeness in a sustainable way. Talent is the engine of that and a growing number of countries have recognized the importance of talent competitiveness. This article aims to cast a light on this matter and to present the findings of the Global Talent Competitiveness Report form 2013 which shows us why “the war for talent” is a global one. Also, the article provides some guidelines for a deeper understanding of talent: how we can attract and retain the workforce of the future.

Anomalous performance enhancement effects in Ruthenium-based Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

2017

Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) are nowadays more and more employed since they present lower production costs than traditional silicon photovoltaic devices. An interesting phenomenon affecting such devices consists in the fact that current density-voltage (J-V) characteristic can depend on the history of the cell prior to the measurement, which often can be assimilated to an anomalous hysteresis effect. In this work, we study such phenomenon on Ruthenium-based DSSCs through a series of measurements performed after applying different values of external electrical field to the cell. The measurements have been carried out both under simulated sunlight (AM1.5G - 1000 W/m2) and in the dark. W…

In Situ Synthesis of Polythiophene and Silver Nanoparticles within a PMMA Matrix: A Nanocomposite Approach to Thermoelectrics

2022

The processability of organic thermoelectric materials plays a crucial role due to their clear advantages of applicability in large-scale areas compared to traditional inorganic counterparts. A promising way to process thermoelectric materials based on conductive polymers is through in situ polymerization in an insulating polymer matrix. This work shows an interpenetrating polymeric network based on polythiophene, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) produced by the oxidative polymerization of terthiophene by an oxidizing silver salt in a PMMA matrix. Ag NPs are in situ synthesized simultaneously as a byproduct. The reaction occurs very fast in the solid state…

The Role of Information in Art Museum Communication Process

2013

Abstract The way that nowadays world is constantly changing influences both individuals and organizations. They have to act in an innovative, fast environment, pursuing their goals. The amount of information increases and it becomes difficult to filtrate and transform it. This is a conceptual paper, which aims at analysing art museums in nowadays society from a communication perspective. It starts out by describing how the museum institution managed to adapt during time and the way it modified under the action of innovation. It describes the needs and functions that such an institution has in society and corroborates them with the information sending process, offering scenario in which an e…

A new application for nickel foam in alkaline fuel cells

2009

The use of nickel foam as an electrode substrate in alkaline fuel cells (AFCs) has been investigated for bi-polar cells incorporating an electrically conducting gas diffusion layer. This contribution focuses on the cathode, and draws comparisons between nickel foam and nickel mesh substrates. One of the principal electrocatalysts for the cathodic reduction of oxygen is silver, so an improvement in electrochemical performance was obtained by electroplating the nickel foam with silver. The electrodeposition process was optimised to maximise electrochemical performance with a minimum of silver deposited. Nickel foam, which is less expensive than the usual nickel mesh, appears to be a good subs…

Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane: A study over the structure and robustness of Ni–W–O catalysts

2014

[EN] The robustness of one selected Ni-W-O catalyst has been studied in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane. This catalyst initially deactivates for the first 10 h online decreasing 15% of its catalytic activity compared to its initial stable catalytic activity. However from 10 to 60 h online the catalytic activity keeps almost stable. On the other hand, it has been shown that the Ni-W-O catalyst cannot tolerate an oxygen-free atmosphere (C-2 and He) as nickel oxide is transformed into metallic nickel. Methane and hydrogen as well as abundant coke were formed on the surface of the catalyst in these O-free conditions. However a re-calcination in air leads to the removal of coke, the cata…

Current transformers effects on the measurement of harmonic active power in LV and MV networks

2011

The harmonic active power is used to determine the location of polluting loads, the direction of harmonic power flow and to estimate how consequential a certain current harmonic source is. The highest uncertainties, when measuring harmonic active power, are introduced by the current and voltage transducers. This paper presents experimental results which show the impact of current transformers (CTs) on the accuracy of the harmonic power measurements. An expression for the evaluation of the power error in distorted conditions was developed which can be easily utilized in the case of linear current transducers. It is shown how CTs cannot be considered linear transducers and how the higher the …

Intellectual Capital – The Key for Sustainable Competitive Advantage for the SME's Sector

2015

Abstract With the adoption of the Lisbon Agenda and its major objective, namely that the EU would become the most dynamic and competitive knowledge based economy in the world, it became clear the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) are the especially affected by these plans, because they represent the driving force for the European economy. In this context of creating and maintaining a competitive advantage for the SME's, it is crucial for them to make good use of the intellectual capital of their employees, in an efficient and proficient manner, in order to increase their potential for innovation. The aim of this article is to show, through an original argumentation, based on the analysis…

Integrated Urban Regeneration – Solution for Cities Revitalize

2013

Abstract To overcome the crisis which present society faces, it's necessary find solutions, adopt new strategies, leading to transforming too and revitalizing urban areas. Urban regeneration means the improvement the quality of life and investing in the future, this action being a very broad one, continues, difficult, but not impossible, in any case imperative. This paper presents the results of a study on integrated sustainable urban regeneration in several European countries, including Romania, and comparison between these countries in terms of urban regeneration.
