Impact of the Solar Irradiation Angle on the Work of Modules with Spherical Cells - Simulation

2018

Abstract The main purpose of all PV modules is to convert solar energy into electricity, but in the era of building integrated photovoltaics, there are additional opportunities to use them. The use of them as a composite of architectural structures in the form of facade cladding, roofing, stained glass windows or noise barriers on highways, in addition to generating electricity embellish also the aesthetic value of the facilities. However, these atypical their use, cause that the modules should have quite different properties then in the traditional application, which is related to their unusual way of positioning. Particularly for structures such as the modules made of spherical cells with…

A Prototype of Wireless Sensor for Data Acquisition in Energy Management Systems

2018

A prototype of a wireless sensor for monitoring electrical loads in a smart building is designed and implemented. The sensor can acquire the main electrical parameters of the connected load and, optionally, other physical quantities (e.g., room temperature). Unlike other wireless sensors in literature, the proposed sensor is cheap and small, exploits the Wi-Fi network that is commonly available inside buildings, and uses a lightweight message-based communication paradigm. Besides the sensor node, two management nodes are also implemented to manage sensor reconfiguration and the persistence of data. The measured data are stored in an SQLite database and can be used for various purposes, e.g.…

Perovskite Solar Cells: Stable under Space Conditions

2020

Metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are of interest for high altitude and space applications due to their lightweight and versatile form factor. However, their resilience toward the particle spectrum encountered in space is still of concern. For space cells, the effect of these particles is condensed into an equivalent 1 MeV electron fluence. The effect of high doses of 1 MeV e-beam radiation up to an accumulated fluence to 10^16 e-cm-2 on methylammonium lead iodide perovskite thin films and solar cells is probed. By using substrate and encapsulation materials that are stable under the high energy e-beam radiation, its net effect on the perovskite film and solar cells can be studied.…

Is Ethics Rational? Teleological, Deontological and Virtue Ethics Theories Reconciled in the Context of Traditional Economic Decision Making

2016

Abstract This article examines the most prominent ethical theories from the view point of economic rationality. Authors argue that utilitarian perspective which used to be connected with classical concepts of rationality in economics is not the only approach to understand reasoning behind the human behaviour. Moreover, Virtue ethics developed by Aristotle more than 2000 years ago, gives modern perspective to the questions of morale and ethics, connecting individuals to broader communities and explaining their motivation and actions. Similarly, deontological theories that from the first sight might seem as contradicting to rational choice, explain human behaviour when examined at the macro l…

The Role of Industry in the Prevalence of Overeducation in Europe

2015

Abstract This paper performs a detailed study on the interaction between industry and the risk of overeducation using European Social Survey Round 5 data on 27 countries. Administrative and accommodation industries have the largest overeducation levels. When macro-level variables are included in the overeducation model, finance and public administration join these industries in being significantly more open to overeducation than manufacturing. Construction is the only industry with significantly lower overeducation risk than manufacturing. The exposure to overeducation in different industries reflects clear consequences of traditional association of men and women with different industries. …

Evolution of Tourist Accommodation Structures in Romanian's Developing Regions in the Context of New Challenges at European Level

2013

Abstract This paper analyzes the evolution of tourist structures with functions of tourist accommodation in the eights development regions of Romania Romania. Given the financial crisis, the differences between regions in terms of tourism infrastructure have accentuated. Investments to modernize tourist infrastructure and resorts can certainly revive tourism in many regions, which in its turn can help the economic growth of the area.

Studying the stability of Solvent Red 19 and 23 as excise duty components under the influence of controlled factors

2020

Abstract In this study, we examine the chemical stability of two disazo dyes, namely Solvent Red 19 and 23 (SR 19 and SR 23), under simulated conditions. Both dyes are considered to be chemically stable under normal exploitation conditions and therefore, are used extensively as excise duty components that enable a rapid visual verification of the tax levels that were imposed on fuel products as well as identifying fuel usage. However, the results from this study confirmed that the colour of the samples that had been fortified with either SR 19 or SR 23 fades under the influence of external conditions such as UV-A irradiation and temperature over time. The UV-A irradiation was the dominant f…

Exergy recovery in regasification facilities – Cold utilization: A modular unit

2009

Abstract The paper deals with the problem of cold recovery for direct utilization both in the site of regasification facility and far from it. A modular LNG regasification unit is proposed having the regasification capacity of 2 billion standard cubic meters/year of gas. The modular plant is based on use of a power cycle working with ethane or ethylene which allows operation of cold energy transfer, contained in LNG to be regasified, in a range of temperatures suitable for multipurpose use of cold, reducing regasification process irreversibility. Some electric energy is produced by the power cycle, but the own mission of modular unit proposed is addressed to deliver cold suitable for indust…

Thermal analysis and new insights to support decision making in retrofit and relaxation of heat exchanger networks

2011

International audience; Pinch analysis offers a rational framework for identifying energy saving targets and designing efficient heat recovery networks, especially in process industry. Several scientists have contributed to improve and automate the original pinch method over the last decades, increasing its capability to deal with a number of specific issues; the expertise of the analyst, however, remains determinant in achieving optimal results. In this paper a procedure for retrofit of existing networks is proposed, based on an integrate use of several techniques (either existing or innovative). The diagnosis of the existing network and of a "Minimum Energy Requirement" configuration emer…

Potential applications using LNG cold energy in Sicily

2008

According to previsions, natural gas could be the main energy source worldwide, inducing relevant geopolitical changes. Most likely, such problems will be solved with the development of a gas transportation mode alternative to traditional pipelines: liquefied natural gas (LNG). The global LNG trade has increased rapidly during recent years. A significant amount of energy is consumed to produce low-temperature LNG, which has plenty of cryogenic exergy/ energy. Therefore, the effective utilization of the cryogenic energy associated with LNG vaporization is very important. Sicily, with more than five million inhabitants, is the second biggest region of Italy and in this region will be realized…
