The determinants of stakeholder engagement in digital platforms
2018
Abstract Consumer engagement has been heralded as strategic in facilitating sales growth, competitive advantage, and profitability. Expanding the notion of consumer engagement to the stakeholder context, this study examines the determinants of multi-stakeholder digital engagement. Based on a digital setting (Expo2015), this study collected all the social media posts (n = 984) in the Facebook page with restricted access to the stakeholders involved in the event. Initial regression results suggest that the presence of transformation, in terms of activation of creative resource integration in posts, is a strong predictor of compliant and interactive engagement. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparativ…
Concurrent TMS-fMRI for causal network perturbation and proof of target engagement
2021
The experimental manipulation of neural activity by neurostimulation techniques overcomes the inherent limitations of correlative recordings, enabling the researcher to investigate causal brain-behavior relationships. But only when stimulation and recordings are combined, the direct impact of the stimulation on neural activity can be evaluated. In humans, this can be achieved non-invasively through the concurrent combination of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Concurrent TMS-fMRI allows the assessment of the neurovascular responses evoked by TMS with excellent spatial resolution and full-brain coverage. This enables the functional ma…
Positive Psychology Perspectives on Foreign Language Learning and Teaching
2016
The process of internationalisation of education in Australia and globally is frequently viewed from the deficit perspective of difficulties and challenges international students face while studying in another country. This paper examines a different perspective of the international educational experience. It explores the positive aspects of the international students’ view on their life in Australia and studying at an Australian university. The paper examines possible interpretations of data from student surveys using dimensions from educational positive psychology for the analysis. First, it outlines the concepts of negative and positive emotions and their role in learning. Then, it intro…
Negative Engagement
2018
Negative engagement has steeply increased on the scholarly agenda along with the introduction of real time and social media, though negative experiences and emotions are as such not new phenomena. This chapter takes a future perspective and focuses on negative stakeholder engagement online in the context of organizations and brands, which increasingly face visible forms of negative stakeholder emotions or even fierce "shit storms". It begins by defining what negative stakeholder engagement refers to in the context of organizations and brands. The chapter introduces the development of negative engagement via related concepts. After introducing the concepts, the process and the outcomes of ne…

Determinants of social integration in the community: an exploratory analysis of personal, interpersonal and situational variables
2004
This article aims to explore the effects of personal, interpersonal, and situational variables on social integration in the community. Structural equation analyses from two-wave panel data (N = 536) of adult participants living in an urban area showed that personal determinants (perceived stress and depressive mood), and situational determinants (undesirable life events) were statistically related to a decrease in social integration in the community. Interpersonal determinants (emotional, guidance, and instrumental support) were positively associated with an increase in social integration in the community. Implications of these and other findings are discussed. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley &…
Children’s Social Participation in Virtual Worlds
2013
Virtual worlds provide an arena for children to express themselves and to interact with others. They are a natural and frequent part of children's life today. However, there is not much research on what actually happens in the online worlds and what kind of opportunities those worlds could offer to children and thereby enhance their social participation. The aim in this study is to explore the potential of virtual worlds for children's social participation. The empirical part of the study consists of interviews with 21 Finnish children, aged 11-15 years. By interviewing children, the authors examined their social practices in virtual worlds. In the study, the authors found seven types of so…
An Intra-Subject Approach Based on the Application of HMM to Predict Concentration in Educational Contexts from Nonintrusive Physiological Signals in…
2021
Previous research has proven the strong influence of emotions on student engagement and motivation. Therefore, emotion recognition is becoming very relevant in educational scenarios, but there is no standard method for predicting students’ affects. However, physiological signals have been widely used in educational contexts. Some physiological signals have shown a high accuracy in detecting emotions because they reflect spontaneous affect-related information, which is fresh and does not require additional control or interpretation. Most proposed works use measuring equipment for which applicability in real-world scenarios is limited because of its high cost and intrusiveness. To tackle this…
Stratēģijas dzīves prasmju attīstīšanai 6. klases angļu valodas stundās
2022
