The incidence of multiple pregnancy has increased, particularly because of the advances in assisted reproductive technologies. Multiple gestations are high risk pregnancies, especially the monochorionic ones. Two/thirds of initially twin pregnancies result in singles at birth, a condition defined as vanishing twin syndrome. The intrauterine death of one of the twins can cause direct fetal damage to the surviving one on several levels. The paper describes the case of a child born from twin pregnancy that was interrupted for one of the co-twins at early second trimester of gestation who presented with aplasia cutis congenita.

Strain hardening in liquid-particle suspensions

The behavior of a liquid-particle suspension induced to sheared motion was analyzed by numerical simulations. When the velocity (strain) of the suspension began to increase, its viscosity first stayed almost constant, but increased then rapidly to a clearly higher level. This increase in viscosity is shown to be related to formation of clusters of suspended particles. Clusters are shown to increase the viscosity by enhanced momentum transfer though clustered particles. This is the mechanism behind the strain-hardening phenomenon observed in small-strain experiments on liquid-particle suspensions.

A neutron diffraction (ND) and neutron tomography (NT) study of laminated ancient bronzes was performed at the ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK) neutron source and at the BENSC reactor (Hahn-Meitner Institut, Germany). The samples are part of an 8th century BC Etruscan collection discovered in the necropolises of Osteria-Poggio Mengarelli and Cavalupo in the Vulci area (Viterbo, Italy). W pracy omówiono problemy związane z organizacją leczenia ran przewlekłych. Model systemu opieki nad chorym z przewlekłą raną powinien opierać się na trzech filarach: lokalnej poradni leczenia ran, specjalistycznych centrach leczenia ran pełniących rolę ośrodka referencyjnego oraz na klubach pacjentów, w których można rozwiązać problemy psychospołeczne.

A good and unique person passed away – a lawyer, an expert on historical monuments, a theoretician on securing works of art, a sensitive soul. His loss is irreparable. Having known Piotr for years as a modest person shying from acclaim I am aware that he would not have wanted to become the topic of written reminiscences.
