Partial Discharge Detection Using a Spherical Electromagnetic Sensor

2019

The presence of a partial discharge phenomenon in an electrical apparatus is a warning signal that could determine the failure of the insulation system, terminating the service of the apparatus and/or the network. In this paper, an innovative partial discharge (PD) measurement instrument based on an antenna sensor is presented and analyzed. Being non-intrusive is one of the most relevant features of the sensor. The frequency response of the antenna sensor and the features to recognize different PD sources and automatically synchronize them with the supply voltage are described and discussed in details. The results show the performance of the instrument can make a fast and correct diagnosis …

«MUOVERSI DENTRO LE PAROLE» Incursioni nel romanzo italiano contemporaneo (2008-2021)

2022

UV laser induced photolysis of glycolic acid isolated in argon matrices

2021

The photochemistry of matrix-isolated glycolic acid, induced by UV light, was studied by FTIR spectroscopy and B3LYPD3/6-311++G(3df,3pd) calculations. Several decomposition pathways were found to take place upon 212 nm and 226 nm wavelengths irradiation. A number of complexes formed between photoproducts were identified, among them those of formaldehyde with water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide as well as the H2O-CO complexes. The structure and spectroscopic assignment of the photoproducts were made comparing the experimental results with the theoretical predictions and available literature data. The observed formation of different complexes indicates various pathways for their formati…

Interference Cancellation for LoRa Gateways and Impact on Network Capacity

2021

In this paper we propose LoRaSyNc (LoRa receiver with SyNchronization and Cancellation), a second generation LoRa receiver that implements Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) and time synchronization to improve the performance of LoRa gateways. Indeed, the chirp spread spectrum modulation employed in LoRa experiences very high capture probability, and cancelling the strongest signal in case of collisions can significantly improve the cell capacity. An important feature of LoRaSyNc is the ability to track the frequency and clock drifts between the transmitter and receiver, during the whole demodulation of the interfered frame. Due to the use of low-cost oscillators on end-devices, a s…

Interactivized : Visual Interaction for Better Decisions with Interactive Multiobjective Optimization

2022

In today’s data-driven world, decision makers are facing many conflicting objectives. Since there is usually no solution that optimizes all objectives simultaneously, the aim is to identify a solution with acceptable trade-offs. Interactive multiobjective optimization methods are iterative processes in which a human decision maker repeatedly provides one’s preferences to request computing new solutions and compares them. With these methods, the decision maker can learn about the problem and its limitations. However, advanced optimization software usually offer simple visualization tools that can be significantly improved. On the other hand, current approaches for multiobjective optimization…

Encapsulation of xenon by bridged resorcinarene cages with high 129Xe NMR chemical shift and efficient exchange dynamics

2023

Functionalized cages encapsulating xenon atoms enable highly sensitive, background-free molecular imaging through a technique known as HyperCEST 129Xe MRI. Here, we introduce a class of potential biosensor cage structures based on two resorcinarene macrocycles bridged either by aliphatic carbon chains or piperazines. First-principles-based modeling predicts a high chemical shift (about 345 ppm) outside the typical experimental observation window for 129Xe encapsulated by the aliphatically bridged cage and two 129Xe resonances for the piperazine-bridged cages corresponding to single and double loading. Based on the computational predictions as well as 129Xe chemical exchange saturation trans…

Flow Cytometry and Karyotype Analysis ofD. melanogasterEye Disc Cells

2008

The developing Drosophila eye-antennal disc is a particularly suited system for the genetic and cellular studies of complex biological processes. Methods to analyze Drosophila eye discs by flow cytometry are mainly based on the dissociation of tissues with trypsin. Dissociation operated by trypsin is very effective, though it causes a lot of stress to live cells often compromising the use of treated cells for further analyses. Here, we report a method to produce dissociated eye-disc cells that retain cell-membrane markers and that can be used for flow cytometry and cytological analysis of mitotic chromosomes. The method described is a great complementing tool for the cellular characterizati…

Una scheda per il «Flaminio» di Federico e Pergolesi: «Benedetto, maledetto» tra memoria della scena ed equivoci del popolare

2019

Checca’s canzona ‘Benedetto, maledetto’, the shortest number in "Il Flaminio" (1735) by Gennaro Antonio Federico and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, has often been considered to be a direct quotation or a convincing inimitation of a popular song. In fact, its poetic text derives from the comedy "La Tancia" (1611) by Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger. In both works the scene shows a therapeutic strategy adopted to stop a (presumed) epileptic seizure. The symbols and rituals described by Buonarroti and Federico refer to popular beliefs that were widespread in Italy, and that were brought to the stage also by the actors of the commedia dell’arte. Igor Stravisky uses Pergolesi’s short piece to i…

Differential competitive ability between sexes in the dioecious Antennaria dioica (Asteraceae)

2012

† Background and Aims Differences in competitive ability between the sexes of dioecious plants are expected as a result of allocation trade-offs associated with sex-differential reproductive costs. However, the available data on competitive ability in dioecious plants are scarce and contradictory. In this study sexual competition was eval- uated using the dioecious plant Antennaria dioica in a common garden transplantation experiment. † Methods Male and female plants were grown for 3 years either in isolation, or in competition with a plant of the same sex or the opposite sex. Flowering phenology, sexual and asexual reproduction, plant growth, nutrient content and arbuscular mycorrhizal col…
