International audience; Cinnamon proanthocyanidins present important biological properties. However, these molecules are unstable and possess an astringent taste, which can make their ingestion difficult. In this context, entrapment by spray-drying technology may be used to produce a concentrated extract with improved stability and reduced astringency. Simple endoscopic decompression of cubital tunnel syndrome with the Agee system: anatomic study and first clinical results.

BACKGROUND Simple decompression in ulnar nerve compression syndromes offers options for endoscopic applications. OBJECTIVE The authors present their initial experience with the Agee device. PATIENTS AND METHODS The monoportal endoscopic technique (Agee system) was evaluated on 10 cadaveric arms. Subsequently, 32 arms of 29 patients were operated on between January 2006 and March 2009. All patients presented with typical clinical signs and neurophysiologic studies. Long-term follow-up examinations were obtained in 27 of 32 arms. Nutcracker syndrome due to left renal vein compression by an aberrant right renal artery

Classic nutcracker syndrome is caused by left renal vein compression between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta, leading to retrograde venous hypertension associated with such urinary abnormalities as hematuria or proteinuria. We describe a case of symptomatic nutcracker syndrome treated by means of stent placement in which hypertension in the left renal vein was caused by stenosis of this vein compressed by an aberrant right renal artery at a point closer to the inferior vena cava.

The author has studied, in a group of 40 dissections on cadavers of individuals of different ages, the main “critical zones” of entrapment of some terminal branches of the lumbo-sacral plexus, which include canals (fibrous, osteo-fibrous, fibro-muscular), intervals (intermuscular, fibro-muscular, musculo-ligamentous), rings (fibrous or fibro-muscular) and foramina. They provide the topographical anatomical basis for possible compressive phenomena of the nerves of the lower limb.

Abstract A hyaluronic acid derivative bearing pendant l -benzoyl-cysteine portions (with a derivatization degree equal to 10 mol.%) was synthesized by linking N,N′-dibenzoyl- l -cystine to the polysaccharide and then reducing its disulfide bridge to thiol groups. The formation of π–π stacking interactions between the benzoyl moieties was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy as a function of polymer concentration and oxidation time. Internal jugular vein entrapment in a multiple sclerosis patient.

We describe a multiple sclerosis patient presenting with compression of the internal jugular vein caused by aberrant omohyoid muscle. Previously this patient underwent balloon angioplasty of the same internal jugular vein. Ten months after this endovascular procedure, Doppler sonography revealed totally collapsed middle part of the treated vein with no outflow detected. Still, the vein widened and the flow was restored when the patient’s mouth opened. Thus, the abnormality was likely to be caused by muscular compression.
