Multi-marginal entropy-transport with repulsive cost
2020
In this paper we study theoretical properties of the entropy-transport functional with repulsive cost functions. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a minimizer in a class of metric spaces and prove the $\Gamma$-convergence of the entropy-transport functional to a multi-marginal optimal transport problem with a repulsive cost. We also prove the entropy-regularized version of the Kantorovich duality.
The Grain Boundary Wetting Phenomena in the Ti‐Containing High‐Entropy Alloys: A Review
2021
This review is written during the preparation of M‐era.Net full proposal ʺGrain boundaries in multicomponent alloys without principal componentʺ (A.K., A.K., G.A.L. and E.R., application No. 9345). The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, as a cen‐ ter of excellence, has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Framework Pro‐ gramme H2020‐WIDESPREAD‐01‐2016‐2017‐TeamingPhase2 under grant agreement no. 739508, project CAMART2.
Spectral entropy based neuronal network synchronization analysis based on microelectrode array measurements
2016
Synchrony and asynchrony are essential aspects of the functioning of interconnected neuronal cells and networks. New information on neuronal synchronization can be expected to aid in understanding these systems. Synchronization provides insight in the functional connectivity and the spatial distribution of the information processing in the networks. Synchronization is generally studied with time domain analysis of neuronal events, or using direct frequency spectrum analysis, e.g., in specific frequency bands. However, these methods have their pitfalls. Thus, we have previously proposed a method to analyze temporal changes in the complexity of the frequency of signals originating from differ…
GRANULAR-INFORMATION-BASED RISK ANALYSIS IN UNCERTAIN SITUATIONS
2006
In the real life almost all of the decisions that we have to make incorporate uncertainty about the future events. Assessment of the uncertainty and, thus, the risk that is inherent in these decisions models can be critical. It is even truer if we are talking about the possibility of negative impact on the environment. It is very important to assess all the environmental risks in a project if there is any hazard to the environment. In this paper the possibility of using granular information is considered. The main advantage of the granular information is that it can be used to assess risks in situations when information about future events is incomplete and imprecise. Moreover, we can use n…
Entropic model application to identify cross-sectional flow effect on velocity distribution in a large amplitude meandering channel
2020
Abstract Literature shows the application of the entropy concept in open channels flow. No existing research has been addressed to the application of the entropy concept for evaluating the effect of secondary flow which especially develops in curved channels. The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility to evaluate the effect of the secondary flow on the stream-wise velocity distribution starting only from the knowledge of the surface velocity and the entropic concept application. The analysis is conducted with the aid of data collected in a large-amplitude meandering laboratory flume for two different values of the width-to-depth ratio. Results show that the location of the maxi…
Beware of contagion!
2003
Landscape ecology starts from the assumption that diversity and spatial arrangement of ecosystem mosaics has ecological implications and tries to understand the interactions between diversity and structure of large spatially heterogeneous areas and its ecological functions. This approach implies effective use of earth observation techniques and geographic information systems, enabling a global view of the landscape mosaics. Consequently, a large number of indices has been used to quantify the structure of categorical maps as a surrogate of actual landscapes and correlate them to ecological processes. In particular, the entropy-based contagion index has been extensively used to summarize the…
Spatial spillovers in France: a study on individual count data at the city level
2007
Our study aims to measure the effects of spatial R&D spillovers on firms' patent production at the city level. We use an original method to estimate the spatial dimension of spillovers using count data. The method, based on a generalized cross entropy approach, allows us to test spatial auto-correlation. The main result is that when there are local spillovers, their impact on knowledge production is different according to the geographical area and the sector.
Entropijas jēdziens kā strukturālā grēka izpratnes pamats H. L. Segundo evolucionārajā teoloģijā
2021
Assessing Transfer Entropy in cardiovascular and respiratory time series: A VARFI approach
2021
In the study of complex biomedical systems represented by multivariate stochastic processes, such as the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, an issue of great relevance is the description of the system dynamics spanning multiple temporal scales. Recently, the quantification of multiscale complexity based on linear parametric models, incorporating autoregressive coefficients and fractional integration, encompassing short term dynamics and long-range correlations, was extended to multivariate time series. Within this Vector AutoRegressive Fractionally Integrated (VARFI) framework formalized for Gaussian processes, in this work we propose to estimate the Transfer Entropy, or equivalently G…
New Invariant Domain Preserving Finite Volume Schemes for Compressible Flows
2021
We present new invariant domain preserving finite volume schemes for the compressible Euler and Navier–Stokes–Fourier systems. The schemes are entropy stable and preserve positivity of density and internal energy. More importantly, their convergence towards a strong solution of the limit system has been proved rigorously in [9, 11]. We will demonstrate their accuracy and robustness on a series of numerical experiments.
