Abstract A literature updated has been made on the academical studies focused on the social impact of environmental studies, paying attention to both, the quality of the information provided and the side effects of the methodology employed, also considering the importance of the analytical methodologies in the development of remediation processes and the key subject of the transmission of the environmental information to the policy makers and the general society.

Charcoal analysis and wood diameter: inductive and deductive methodological approaches for the study of firewood collecting practices

International audience; We present and discuss two approaches for evaluating the diameter of carbonized wood.Results from a theoretical model and its experimental validation shows that the proportions of diameter classes predicted by the model can be recognized. Even though the measured caliber classes do not correspond to the reality of the initial diameters, the measures were sufficiently different and reproductive to be discriminated through factorial analysis. Seasonal changes in predator community switch the direction of selection for prey defences

Insect communities consist of aposematic species with efficient warning colours against predation, as well as abundant examples of crypsis. To understand such coexistence, we here report results from a field experiment where relative survival of artificial larvae, varying in conspicuousness, was estimated in natural bird communities over an entire season. This takes advantage of natural variation in the proportion of naive predators: naivety peaks when young birds have just fledged. We show that the relative benefit of warning signals and crypsis changes accordingly. Cyclical parthenogenesis presents an interesting challenge for the study of sex allocation, as individuals’ allocation decisions involve both the choice between sexual and asexual reproduction, and the choice between sons and daughters.
