Recurrence rate of oral squamous cell papilloma after excision with surgical scalpel or laser therapy : a retrospective cohort study

Background The aim was to describe the recurrence rates of Oral Squamous Cell Papilloma (OSCP) following surgical treatment with surgical scalpel and two different lasers (CO2 or Er,Cr;YSGG) and to determine the clinical and histopathologic features of these lesions. Material and Methods A retrospective cohort study covering a period of 12 years (1997-2009) that included patients diagnosed of OSCP treated with surgical excision was performed. Prostaglandins influence the ciliary beat frequency (CBF) of ciliated nasal epithelial cells and a stimulatory effect has been described for prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Until now, it is not known whether PGE2 has direct ciliostimulatory properties or acts through a second messenger. Abstract Purpose: Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) recently received increased attention not only as a prognostic factor in breast cancer but also as a potential target for immunotherapy. We examined Ep-CAM expression in 402 consecutive node-negative breast cancer patients with long-term follow-up not treated in the adjuvant setting. Solid variant of mammary "adenoid cystic carcinoma with basaloid features" merging with "small cell carcinoma"

We describe a rare case of a solid variant of a mammary adenoid cystic carcinoma with basaloid features (sbACC) and its coexistence with a "small cell" carcinoma (SCC), identified and confirmed by histological and immunohistochemical observations: the absence of glandular structures and PAS-positive globules, positivity for neuroendocrine markers (NSE, synaptophysin and chromogranin), and negativity for 34betaE12 and SMA actin were the aspects suggesting the presence of SCC. It is essential to reach a better understanding of "flat epithelial atypia/columnar cell lesions" (FEA/CCLs) in breast core biopsies. Our aim was to explore their biological nature, in order to predict the likelihood of an upgrade to carcinoma. Merkel cells are difficult to identify in tissue sections. Previous studies have used cytokeratins (CK) 8, 18, and 19 as histologic markers of Merkel cells. However, these CKs are also expressed in some outer root sheath keratinocytes and some early fetal epidermal cells and thus are not truly specific of Merkel cells in general. Changes of Expression of Intermediate Filament Proteins During Ontogenesis of Eccrine Sweat Glands

The intermediate filament expression in fetal and adult human eccrine sweat glands was studied by immunoperoxidase microscopy performed on cryostat sections using monoclonal antibodies against various cytokeratins (CK), vimentin, and actin. In palmar skin of 14-week-old fetuses, the early dermal cords showed a primitive CK pattern similar to that of epidermal basal cells.
