The goal of this study is to examine how the relatively new phenomenon of multilingualism in the Finnish education system is presently managed in foreign language classes in the Finnish comprehensive school. The focus is on how bi- and multilingual learners with migration background can benefit from their previous individual language experiences, language learning experiences and language awareness processes, and how these function as a resource for their further (foreign) language learning process. The measurement of seasonality for tourism evaluation

Seasonal variations in tourism demand represent one of the most challenging topics in tourism research. After highlighting the main pitfalls which characterize the majority of currently used indices for seasonal amplitude, the present work propose the implementation of a recently discusses a recently proposed index for the measurement of seasonality in tourism, based on the transportation problem approach. An adequate measurement of seasonality is a pre-requisite for the evaluation of the effectiveness of tourism policies aimed at reducing tourism demand imbalance.
The Effects of the Value-Added Tax on Revenue and Inequality

This paper examines the impact of the introduction of the value-added tax on inequality and government revenues using newly released macro data. We present both conventional country fixed effect regressions and instrumental variable analyses, where VAT adoption is instrumented using the previous values of neighbouring countries’ VAT systems as an instrument. The results reveal – in contrast to earlier work – that the revenue consequences of the VAT have not been positive. The results indicate that income-based inequality has increased due to the VAT adoption, whereas consumption inequality has remained unaffected. Peer reviewed

Onko tasavertainen dialogi mahdollista mentoroinnissa? Ehdotamme mentoroinnin tarkasteluun mallia, joka auttaa välttämään toisaalta autoritaarisuuden ja hierarkkisuuden, toisaalta naiivit odotukset täydellisestä tasa-arvosta. Tarkastelemme dialogisuuden mahdollisuutta mentoroinnissa kolmella eri tasolla – eksistentiaalisella, episteemisellä ja juridis-eettisellä. Mentorointi voisi parhaimmillaan olla kahden ihmisen välistä vuorovaikutusta, joka perustuu vastavuoroiseen luottamukseen ja toisen tietojen, taitojen ja osaamisen arvostamiseen. Fractional Hardy inequalities and visibility of the boundary

We prove fractional order Hardy inequalities on open sets under a combined fatness and visibility condition on the boundary. We demonstrate by counterexamples that fatness conditions alone are not sufficient for such Hardy inequalities to hold. In addition, we give a short exposition of various fatness conditions related to our main result, and apply fractional Hardy inequalities in connection to the boundedness of extension operators for fractional Sobolev spaces.
