Tid og rom for likestilling? : En kvalitativ studie av likestillingsarbeid sett i lys av barnehagens struktur
2017
Masteroppgave pedagogikk PED511 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Background and purpose of the project The purpose of this study has been to investigate whether structural factors in kindergarten can affect gender equality in the children's group. Status reports from the kindergarten field show that gender equality is proving challenging in practiceand my research aims to look into what may be the reasons for this. Looking at the kindergarten structure, specifically time and space, I wanted to look at the role of time frames and different rooms in the gender equality issue. My research question is: What significance can the kindergarten's structural form have for the implementation of gender eq…
Fault detection for discrete-time Markov jump linear systems with partially known transition probabilities
2010
In this article, the fault detection (FD) problem for a class of discrete-time Markov jump linear system (MJLS) with partially known transition probabilities is investigated. The proposed systems are more general, which relax the traditional assumption in Markov jump systems that all the transition probabilities must be completely known. A residual generator is constructed and the corresponding FD is formulated as an H ∞ filtering problem by which the error between residual and fault are minimised in the H ∞ sense. The linear matrix inequality-based sufficient conditions for the existence of FD filter are derived. A numerical example on a multiplier–accelerator model economic system is give…
Sports participation in France and Spain: An international comparison of voraciousness for sport
2020
International audience; The societal comparative approach used in this article to assess voraciousness for sport is based on local surveys. The global was studied at a local level, based on a lengthy process of harmonization of quantitative local surveys. The research is carried out in two countries that are geographically close, but quite different to each other: France and Spain. In an increasingly globalized world, the objective is to examine differences in the social uses of physical activities and sports (PAS) between the two populations, by explaining them with respect to the differences between these two societies as a whole. The social differentiations identified in the portfolio si…
Postcolonial studies and translation theory
2009
The Rhetoric of Healthcare Inequality in Capitalist Classed Societies: Blomkamp’s and Romanek’s Dystopian Visions
2018
The future of democratic societies has been widely debated among futurologists, including the possible ways medicine could advance, changing the lives of individuals and communities. Yet, what seems a reasonable question to ask is – how the unequal access to healthcare might perpetuate social and economic divisions and turn democracy into tyranny. This paper advances a rhetorical analysis of the reciprocal relations between healthcare and the classed capitalist system as portrayed in two dystopian pictures: Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go (2010) and Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium (2013). The realities depicted in these movies, as well as their narratives, vary considerably; however, they both pres…
Bernstein and poetics revisited: voice, globalization and education
2008
This article engages in a theory of linguistic inequality under conditions of globalization. Starting from a development of the notion of voice as the capacity to make sense, and a development of the organized and patterned `poetic' structure of actual discourse, it analyses data from police interviews with immigrants, witness statements in the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and data from classroom learning environments in South Africa and Belgium. Throughout these analyses, we see that detailed attention to poetic patterning is required in order to reconstruct the voice articulated by people whose voice's would otherwise not be heard. This insight has a bearing on our …
A new definition for metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease: An international expert consensus statement
2020
The exclusion of other chronic liver diseases including “excess” alcohol intake has until now been necessary to establish a diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). However, given our current understanding of the pathogenesis of MAFLD and its rising prevalence, “positive criteria” to diagnose the disease are required. In this work, a panel of international experts from 22 countries propose a new definition for the diagnosis of MAFLD that is both comprehensive and simple, and is independent of other liver diseases. The criteria are based on evidence of hepatic steatosis, in addition to one of the following three criteria, namely overweight/obesity, presence …
Metabolic syndrome and severity of fibrosis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: An age-dependent risk profiling study
2017
Background & Aims: Metabolic syndrome (MS) and its individual components are associated with the severity and progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We sought to evaluate the relationship between MS components and the risk of severe hepatic fibrosis in NAFLD patients discriminated by age. Methods: We considered 863 consecutive patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD, who had been fully evaluated for components of MS. Results: Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that F3-F4 was associated with visceral obesity, IFG/diabetes, and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, but not triglycerides >150 or arterial hypertension. A significant interaction was found betw…
Immigrant status, gender, and school burnout in Finnish lower secondary school students : A longitudinal study
2017
The aim of this longitudinal study among 9223 students from grade 7 and grade 9 (age 13–14 and 15–16) was to assess whether immigrant status and gender are associated with the level and change (slope) in school burnout among lower secondary school students in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Ninety-seven percent of the variation in school burnout was attributable to individual factors. Both the intercept (2.3, p < 0.001) and slope (0.5, p < 0.001) of school burnout were statistically significant. The slope showed increasing school burnout from grades 7–9. School burnout increased more in girls than in boys. Initially apparent higher school burnout among students who had immigrated to …
