New populations of the threatened fern Equisetum moorei Newman in the Valencian Community (Spain)

2020

Typifications of the Linnaean name Equisetum hyemale and E. ×moorei (Equisetaceae)

2017

The lectotypes of the names Equisetum hyemale Linnaeus (1753: 1062) and E. ×moorei Newman (1854: 19) (Equisetaceae) are designated. Previously, a neotype for E. hyemale was selected by Hauke in 1962 from a specimen kept at LINN. However, this typification is rejected since there are two original elements that may contribute to a correct lectotypification of the name. Therefore this choice is ineffective and should be rejected. An illustration from Mattioli (1586) is designated as the lectotype. On the other hand, in order to avoid any ambiguity in the interpretation of the lectotype, an epitype is also selected. A lectotype for E. ×moorei, the putative hybrid between E. hyemale and E. ramos…

Data from: Effects of undergrowth removal and edge proximity on ground beetles and vascular plants in urban boreal forests

2019

Urban forests are regularly managed for human safety and aesthetic reasons, but they are crucial habitat for many species. Removals of undergrowth occur commonly in these forests, yet the ecological consequences of these operations are poorly understood. We sampled ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) and vascular plants along 20-m edge gradients in Finnish urban forests, in five stands treated 0.5−2.5 years earlier with undergrowth removal and in five untreated stands. We hypothesized that undergrowth removal and edge proximity would benefit opportunistic and open-habitat species, whereas shady-habitat species would be affected negatively.

Current distribution of Pilularia globulifera L. in Poland – changes of geographical range and habitat preferences

2013

<em>Pilularia globulifera </em>is a subatlantic European fern threatened with extinction. In Poland, it reaches the eastern border of its continuous range. Up to the end of the 20th century, it was observed here in 21 stands; only 2 of them existed by the second half of the century, so the species was categorized as critically endangered. Five new locations have been found in western and northwestern Poland during the last 10 years. Abundant and permanent populations grow in 3 locations, while 2 stands were ephemeral. All the current stands are situated in anthropogenic habitats with spontaneous vegetation, in oligotrophic to eutrophic waters. One of the new localities is about …

Nazwy skrzypu 'Equisetum' w dialekcie śląskim

2018
