Power Line Communication in Medium Voltage Systems: Characterization of MV Cables
2008
The aim of this paper is to illustrate the development of a theoretical and experimental study on the characterization of medium voltage (MV) cables in the frequency range 25-200 kHz. Two transmission line configurations, line-ground and line-line, were considered in order to evaluate the main parameters, such as the characteristic impedance and the attenuation constant alpha. A simplified model of the line-ground configuration is proposed which allows one to evaluate the characteristic impedance and the attenuation constant by means of geometrical dimensions. The model was verified by experimental measurements on commonly used MV cables, RG7H1R, with an aluminium core of different sections…
Psychopathology and female detention at the “Pagliarelli” jail of Palermo: preliminary results
2018
Most of the studies carried out on prisoners have considered male samples or they investigated specific psychiatric disorders. The present study aims to estimate the presence of current and lifetime psychiatric disorders among female inmates. Secondary aims are to evaluate the correlation between a current psychiatric disorder and other variables, and the association with a psycho-pharmacotherapy and a request for a clinical psychological interview. The study included 25 women with a final sentence at the “Casa Circondariale Pagliarelli” from October 2016 to July 2017. The Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) was used to assess the presence of any current or lifetime psychia…
The Occurrence of Diseases and Related Factors in a Center for Asylum Seekers in Italy
2016
Italy is the main recipient of asylum seekers in the European region, and Sicily is their first point of arrival. This geographical position creates a large job for Health Authorities to identify and deal with the health of immigrants. This study evaluates the prevalence of disease among asylum seekers, assessing which are associated factors.A cross-sectional study was conducted to analyse demographic and clinical data in an Acceptance Centres for Asylum Seekers from February 2012 to May 2013. All variables that were found to be significant on unvariable analysis for the most frequent pathologies were included in a multivariable logistic regression model.Post-traumatic stress disorders with…
Italia en la periferia del Mediterráneo. Las relaciones ítalo-españolas entre los siglos XIX y XX: política, economía y sociedad
2015
The birth of Italian Kingdom helped to change in a very remarkable way the political and economic relations established in Europe along the 19th century. Countries like Great Britain, France or Germany had to consider the presence of this modest southern state, above all keeping in mind their future enlargement along the Mediterranean area. In this context, also Spain -lost in a deep and centuries-old political decadence- could not avoid paying attention to this close and historical linguistic relative. Even though the relation between both countries was not easy in the very beginning, later it gave place to a constant exchange of agreements, treaties and even cultural cooperation. The appr…
Sensory Organ Investment Varies with Body Size and Sex in the Butterfly Pieris napi
2021
Simple Summary Pollinating insects rely on a range of senses such as vision, olfaction, gustation, and mechanosensation to utilise, locate, and fly between floral resources. The size of different sensory organs determines their sensitivity and provides an indication of their relative importance—larger organs can enhance sensitivity by increasing the number or size of sensing structures. However, increasing the relative size of an organ would require additional energy for developing and maintaining it. This likely leads to a trade-off between the energy invested into different sensory systems within individuals. To explore how the size of the sensory organs vary with body size in insect poll…
