Embracing iterations in Quantum software: a vision

2022

In today’s software engineering, iterations, affordable en masse, form an important part of just about any system. However, not all computing resources are cheap to consume. In High-Performance (HPC) and Quantum Computing (QC), executions can consume considerable amounts of energy and time, which is reserved and used even if the very first steps in the process fail. This means that developers must assume a different attitude towards programming, and aim at error-free software before its execution. This is com monly facilitated using simulators, which are commonplace for both HPC and QC. However the fashion developers advance from one tool to another is ad-hoc, with no established software e…

Sanottua, ajateltua ja tehtyä : referointi kolmessa suomalaisella viittomakielellä tuotetussa fiktiivisessä kertomuksessa

2008

Tämän tutkimuksen motiivina oli löytää uusi tapa lähestyä sitä ilmiötä, jota on suomalaisessa viittomakielessä totuttu kutsumaan roolinvaihdoksi. Koska roolinvaihdossa ja referoinnissa on muissa viittomakielissä tehtyjen tutkimusten perusteella kyse ainakin osittain samasta ilmiöstä, otettiin tämän tutkimuksen tehtäväksi tarkastella suomalaisessa viittomakielessä tapahtuvaa referointia kolmen fiktiivisen kertomuksen osalta. Referointia tarkasteltiin suomen kielen referoinnin tutkimuksen tarjoamassa viitekehyksessä. Koska viittomakieliin kuuluu keskeisesti tilankäyttö, tarkasteltiin aineistossa referoinnin lajeista suoran esityksen, epäsuoran esityksen, vapaan suoran esityksen, vapaan epäsuo…

Targeting the mevalonate pathway for improved anticancer therapy.

2009

The mevalonate pathway is important for the generation of isoprene moieties thereby providing the basis for the biosynthesis of molecules required for maintaining membrane integrity, steroid production and cell respiration. Additionally, isoprene precursors are indispensable for the prenylation of regulatory proteins such as Ras and Ras-homologous (Rho) GTPases. These low molecular GTP-binding proteins play key roles in numerous signal transduction pathways stimulated upon activation of cell surface receptors by ligand binding. Thus, Ras/Rho proteins eventually regulate cell proliferation, tumor progression and cell death induced by anticancer therapeutics. Lipid modification of Ras/Rho pro…

The Effect of Mechanocatalytic Pretreatment on the Structure and Depolymerization of Willow

2020

In this study, the effect of a mechanocatalytic pretreatment on the structure of willow and sugar release from pretreated willow was explored. In the mechanocatalytic approach, the pretreatment consists of solvent-free impregnation with sulfuric acid and a mechanical treatment with ball milling. Willow sawdust and pretreated samples were analyzed with field emission scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. The products in the sugar solution were determined as the total reducing sugars with the 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid method and monosaccharides with capillary electrophoresis. According to the results, milling increased the sugar production, depending on the sulfuric acid load. T…

Miles Christianus e Heroina Christiana come modelli personali nella tradizione culturale polacca dal XVI al XVIII secolo

2018

One of the most significant influences upon the process of creation of male/female spirituality was exerted by role models characteristic for the culture of Counter-Reformation. Among these models, the ones that occupied the most influential position were Miles Christianus and Heroina Christiana shaped in response to domestic and foreign dangers to which the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was exposed. The article focuses predominantly upon the discussion of social pedagogy build around the propaganda of spiritual struggle. In this respect, a significant role was played by soldiers prayer-bookspublished predominantly in 17th cent., mainly Żołnierskie nabożeństwo [Soldier’s religious service]…

Mucin 1 deficiency mediates corticosteroid insensitivity in asthma

2019

BACKGROUND: The loss of corticosteroid efficacy is an important issue in severe asthma management and may lead to poor asthma control and deterioration of airflow. Recent data indicate that Mucin 1 (MUC1) membrane mucin can mediate corticosteroid efficacy in chronic rhinosinusitis, but the role of MUC1 in uncontrolled severe asthma is unknown. The objective was to analyze the previously unexplored role of MUC1 on corticosteroid efficacy in asthma. METHODS: Mucin 1 expression was evaluated by real-time PCR in human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC) and blood neutrophils from uncontrolled severe asthma (n=27), controlled mild asthma (n=16), and healthy subjects (n=13). IL-8, MMP9, and GM-CSF …

The importance of association between sexsteroids deficiency, reduction of bone mineral density and falling risk in men with implications in medical …

2021

Introduction. Endocrino-metabolic rehabilitation represent one of the most complex sector in clinical medicine, regarding functional rehabilitation. Sex hormones deficiency plays an important role in the etiology of osteoporosis in men. At the same time, with age, the trophic role of androgens on muscle decreases and determines an increased frequency of falls. The objective of our study is to determine the association between sexsteroids deficiency, reduction of bone mineral density (BMD) and falling risk in men. Methods. Our retrospective cross-sectional study included 146 men aged between 65–85 years with low BMD (study group) and 121 men with normal BMD (control group). The measurement o…
