In his work entitled Nasim al-saba (The Breeze of the East Wind), Ibn Habib al-Halabi (d. 1377) dedicates a chapter to the description of a young man (ghulam). The interest of the author in the homoerotic theme confirms the prominent place this topic occupies in premodern Arabic literature. This chapter is characterized by the presence of two parts which differ from a stylistic point of view. The incipit and the closing part present a fictional story which looks like a maqama, while the central part is entirely descriptive. A principios del siglo XX surgió un nuevo modelo de teatro bufo denominado género sicalíptico caracterizado por sus altas dosis de frivolidad y erotismo que hizo furor en la escena madrileña. Vicente Lleó Balbastre (1870-1922) fue el máximo exponente del género en el teatro musical. Bajo su dirección, como empresario y compositor, el Teatro Eslava se convirtió en el templo de la sicalipsis. En este artículo se estudia el nacimiento y eclosión del género, se recopilan todas las obras sicalípticas de Vicente Lleó en la época dorada de la sicalipsis en el teatro musical y se analizan las principales características de su estilo compositivo.

The article follows, at first in general terms, the depiction of the motive of death and dying in literature and culture, including the transformation of the attitude of man towards death in the context of time. It emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of the subject and mentions relevant professional literature. Usually we are ashamed to touch the issue of eroticism, although it is a ąuite natural one and, in fact, very close to us. It seems that roots of this shyness date back to the biblical paradise and to the original sin committed by the first people. Since the exile from paradise the erotic sphere is a kind of taboo that we are afraid to invade.
