Determination of phenolic compounds in air by using cyclodextrin-silica hybrid microporous composite samplers
2015
An analytical method for the determination of phenolic compounds in air samples based on the use of cyclodextrin-silica hybrid microporous composite samplers is proposed. The method allows the determination of phenol, guaiacol, cresol isomers, eugenol, 4-ethylphenol and 4-ethylguaiacol in workplaces according to the Norm UNE-EN 1076:2009 for active sampling. Therefore, the proposed method offers an alternative for the assessment of the occupational exposure to phenol and cresol isomers. The detection limits of the proposed method are lower than those for the NIOSH Method 2546. Storage time of samples almost reaches 44 days. Recovery values for phenol, guaiacol, o-cresol, m-cresol, p-cresol,…
Extremal problems of approximation theory in fuzzy context
1999
Abstract The problem of approximation of a fuzzy subset of a normed space is considered. We study the error of approximation, which in this case is characterized by an L -fuzzy number. In order to do this we define the supremum of an L -fuzzy set of real numbers as well as the supremum and the infimum of a crisp set of L -fuzzy numbers. The introduced concepts allow us to investigate the best approximation and the optimal linear approximation. In particular, we consider approximation of a fuzzy subset in the space L p m of differentiable functions in the L q -metric. We prove the fuzzy counterparts of duality theorems, which in crisp case allows effectively to solve extremal problems of the…
Norm, essential norm and weak compactness of weighted composition operators between dual Banach spaces of analytic functions
2017
Abstract In this paper we estimate the norm and the essential norm of weighted composition operators from a large class of – non-necessarily reflexive – Banach spaces of analytic functions on the open unit disk into weighted type Banach spaces of analytic functions and Bloch type spaces. We also show the equivalence of compactness and weak compactness of weighted composition operators from these weighted type spaces into a class of Banach spaces of analytic functions, that includes a large family of conformally invariant spaces like BMOA and analytic Besov spaces.
Composition operators on uniform algebras, essential norms, and hyperbolically bounded sets
2006
Let A be a uniform algebra, and let o be a self-map of the spectrum M A of A that induces a composition operator C o on A. The object of this paper is to relate the notion of "hyperbolic boundedness" introduced by the authors in 2004 to the essential spectrum of C o . It is shown that the essential spectral radius of C o , is strictly less than 1 if and only if the image of M A under some iterate o n of o is hyperbolically bounded. The set of composition operators is partitioned into "hyperbolic vicinities" that are clopen with respect to the essential operator norm. This partition is related to the analogous partition with respect to the uniform operator norm.
On spectra of geometric operators on open manifolds and differentiable groupoids
2001
We use a pseudodifferential calculus on differentiable groupoids to obtain new analytical results on geometric operators on certain noncompact Riemannian manifolds. The first step is to establish that the geometric operators belong to a pseudodifferential calculus on an associated differentiable groupoid. This then leads to Fredholmness criteria for geometric operators on suitable noncompact manifolds, as well as to an inductive procedure to compute their essential spectra. As an application, we answer a question of Melrose on the essential spectrum of the Laplace operator on manifolds with multicylindrical ends.
Herbicidal Activity of Peumus boldus and Drimys winterii Essential Oils from Chile
2011
[EN] The essential oil composition of Peumus boldus and Drimys winterii was analyzed by means of capillary GC-FID and GC-MS. More than 96% of the total oil components (43 and 54 compounds, respectively) were identified, with ascaridole (51.17 ± 9.51), p-cymene (16.31 ± 2.52) and 1,8-cineole (14.45 ± 2.99) as the main compounds in P. boldus and ¿-eudesmol (21.65 ± 0.41), followed of elemol (12.03 ± 0.34) and terpinen-4-ol (11.56 ± 1.06) in D. winterii. The herbicidal activity was tested against Amaranthus hybridus and Portulaca oleracea. P. boldus essential oil was the most phytotoxic against both weeds, inhibiting seed germination and seedling growth at all concentrations assayed (0.125-1 ¿…
Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of some species of Anthemis sect. Anthemis (Asteraceae) from Sicily
2017
The chemical composition of the essential oils isolated from the aerial parts of Anthemis arvensis L. subsp. arvensis, Anthemis cretica subsp. messanensis (Brullo) Giardina & Raimondo and from flowers and leaves of Anthemis cretica subsp. columnae (Ten.) Frezén were determinated by GC–FID and GC–MS analyses. Torreyol (85.4%) was recognised as the main constituent of the Anthemis arvensis subsp. arvensis essential oil, while in the essential oils of Anthemis cretica subsp. messanensis, collected on the rock and cultivated in Hortus Botanicus Panormitanus, (E)-chrysanthenyl acetate (28.8 and 24.2% resp.), 14-hydroxy-α-humulene (8.1 and 5.3% resp.), santolina triene (8 and 5.8% resp.) and …
Effects of Cucumber mosaic virus and Aster yellows phytoplasma (16SrI-B) on the quality of Echinacea purpurea essential oil.
2011
Echinacea purpurea Moench (L.), known as purple coneflower, is one of the most important medicinal plants, used worldwide for its immunostimulant, bacteriostatic and anti-inflammatory properties, as natural drug and/or food supplement (as infusion). In a previous study carried out in 2002 in Italy to verify possible influence of viral infectious on the plant oil composition, the oil from plants (grown at the Herb Garden of Casola Valsenio, Emilia Romagna region) infected by Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) was compared to the one from healthy plant by combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analyses. Significant quantitative variations in their compositions were verified; the infec…
FOKI AND BSMI VITAMIN D RECEPTOR GENE POLYMORPHISMS, ARE THEY ASSOCIATED WITH INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS IN ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSIVE INDIVIDUALS
2015
Objective: Analyzing 25hydroxyvitaminD (25[OH]D) serum levels and common carotid intimamedia thickness (IMT) relationship, and evaluating the association of FokI and BsmI vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms with IMT in essential hypertensive patients were our study aims. Design and method: We enrolled seventyone essential hypertensive patients, 18–75 years old. Patients underwent clinical blood pressure (BP) measurement, 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, routine blood test, 25[OH]D assay and common carotid IMT evaluation. FokI and BsmIVDRpolymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorphism (PCRRFLP).
