The molecular basis of the low hemolytic activity of C4 molecules from low-C4 mice with IgM-coated erythrocytes.
1989
This study investigated the origin of the different hemolytic activity of two allotypes of murine C4, C4H (C4-high) and C4L (C4-low) in the presence of IgM-coated erythrocytes. C4H displayed a threefold higher hemolytic titer (expressed in hemolytic units/microgram protein) than C4L. No difference was found between c4H and C4L either in stability at 37 degrees C at different pH values and in the rate of C4H and C4L hydrolysis by activated Cl. The major functional difference was found in the covalent binding capacity to IgM-coated erythrocytes, with the amount of C4H bound being about threefold higher than that of C4L. A marked difference in the reactivity of the C4b fragment of C4H and C4L …
Properties and Structural Studies of Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes-Phosphate Ester Hybrids
2013
Long chain phosphate esters bearing at least one or two aryl groups have been synthesized and used for the preparation of stable multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) hybrids. The non-covalent interaction ester/MWCNT has been investigated by several techniques (SEM, UV-vis, 31P-NMR, RAMAN). The used phosphate ester derivatives demonstrated the ability to produce an excellent dispersion of MWCNT in CHCl3. The obtained dispersions showed a great stability from one to at least three weeks in the range of concentration considered. Thermal analysis showed an increase in the decomposition temperature for the hybrids with respect to pristine MWCNT.
Diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of orthogonally protected 2,4-diaminocyclopentanecarboxylates: a flip from beta-amino- to beta,gamma-diamin…
2007
Conformationally restricted, orthogonally protected 2,4-diaminocarboxylates with a cyclopentane skeleton were efficiently synthesized from beta-lactam 6, the syntheses involving strategies of diastereoselective epoxidation of the beta-lactam and the corresponding monoprotected amino esters with opposite selectivities followed by regioselective opening of the oxirane ring with sodium azide. The enantiomers were also prepared. This new class of compounds can be regarded not only as conformationally constrained beta,gamma-diamino acid derivatives but also as potential functionalized carbocyclic nucleoside precursors.
Reactions at Interfaces: Oxygenation of n-Butyl Ligands Anchored on Silica Surfaces with Methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane
2011
The oxygenation of n-butyl and n-butoxy chains bonded to silica with methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane (1) revealed the ability of the silica matrix to release electron density toward the reacting C(2)-H σ-bond through the Si-C(1) and Si-O(1) σ-bonds connecting the alkyl chain to the surface (silicon β-effect). The silica surface impedes neither the alkyl chain adopting the conformation required for the silicon β-effect nor dioxirane 1 approaching the reactive C(2) methylene group. Reaction regioselectivity is insensitive to changes in the solvation of the reacting system, the location of organic ligands on the silica surface, and the H-bonding character of the silica surface. Reaction rates…
Effect of a 2-y dietary and physical activity intervention on plasma fatty acid composition and estimated desaturase and elongase activities in child…
2016
Background: Evidence on the effects of lifestyle interventions on plasma fatty acid composition in children is limited. Objective: We investigated the effects of a dietary and physical activity intervention on plasma fatty acid composition of cholesteryl esters (CEs) and phospholipids and estimated desaturase and elongase activities in children. Design: We conducted a 2-y controlled dietary and physical activity intervention based on Finnish nutrition and physical activity recommendations in a population sample of 506 children aged 6–8 y. We assessed plasma fatty acid composition by gas chromatography and estimated desaturase and elongase activities as the ratio of product fatty acids to pr…
Liver fatty acid composition in the spontaneously diabetic BB rat.
1991
The purpose of the present experiment was to investigate if the modulation by insulin of liver microsomal desaturase activities in the spontaneously diabetic adult male Bio-Breeding (BB) rat, with destructive insulitis resembling the lesions described in the human Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes, corresponds to modifications in fatty acid composition, reflect of changes in fatty acid desaturation. We observed no significant differences between BB rats, during the hyper-(48 h), the normo-(17 h) and the hypo-glycemic (3 h) periods which followed the insulin injection, and control rats for the fatty acid composition of liver total lipids, phosphatidylethanolamines, phosphatidylcholines, tr…
Dual Enzyme-Responsive Capsules of Hyaluronic Acid-block-Poly(Lactic Acid) for Sensing Bacterial Enzymes.
2015
The synthesis of novel amphiphilic hyaluronic acid (HYA) and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) block copolymers is reported as the key element of a strategy to detect the presence of pathogenic bacterial enzymes. In addition to the formation of defined HYA-block-PLA assemblies, the encapsulation of fluorescent reporter dyes and the selective enzymatic degradation of the capsules by hyaluronidase and proteinase K are studied. The synthesis of the dual enzyme-responsive HYA-b-PLA is carried out by copper-catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. The resulting copolymers are assembled in water to form vesicular structures, which are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron…
Synthesis of fluorinated allylic amines: Reaction of 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl sulfones and sulfoxides with fluorinated imines
2007
A new synthesis of fluorinated allylamines through the reaction of 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl sulfones and sulfoxides (as vinyl anion equivalents) with imines and imino esters has been described. The process includes a TBAF-mediated fragmentation of 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl sulfones to afford the desired allylic amines. When the reaction is performed with the corresponding sulfoxides, the fragmentation takes place under the addition conditions, affording the final products in a single step. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. Interesterification of triglycerides with methyl acetate for biodiesel production using a cyclodextrin-derived SnO@γ-Al2O3 composite as heterogeneous…
2022
International audience; Particle morphology and surface properties of metal oxides are topics of great importance in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we have developed a molecular-colloidal coassembly approach combined with an ultrasonic-assisted precipitation method to fabricate SnO@γ-Al2O3 composites with tuneable pore size and well-defined octahedral-shape crystal structure. The supramolecular assemblies formed between the randomly methylated β-cyclodextrin (RaMeβCD) and Pluronic F127 were employed as template to tailor the size and shape of γ-Al2O3 nanoparticles and direct their assembly almost exclusively on the surface of micrometer-sized SnO single …
MRI-Visible Poly(ε-caprolactone) with Controlled Contrast Agent Ratios for Enhanced Visualization in Temporary Imaging Applications
2013
International audience; Hydrophobic macromolecular contrast agents (MMCAs) are highly desirable to provide safe and efficient magnetic resonance (MR) visibility to implantable medical devices. In this study, we report on the synthesis and evaluation of novel biodegradable poly(ε-caprolactone)-based MMCAs. Poly(α-propargyl-ε-caprolactone-co-ε-caprolactone)s containing 2, 5, and 10 mol % of propargyl groups have been prepared by ring-opening copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and the corresponding propargylated lactone. In parallel, a diazido derivative of the clinically used diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)/Gd3+ complex has been synthesized. Finally, MRI-visible poly(ε-caprolactone)…
