Azeotropic distillation for 1-propanol dehydration with diisopropyl ether as entrainer: Equilibrium data and process simulation

2019

Abstract Azeotropic distillation process is widely used to separate non-ideal binary mixtures into their constituent pure components. 1-Propanol dehydration was used as case study and diisopropyl ether was analysed as possible entrainer in an azeotropic distillation. The separation of some alcohols from their aqueous solution is a challenging task because these aqueous mixture forms minimum boiling azeotrope. In this way, isobaric vapor-liquid and vapour-liquid-liquid equilibrium data were measured for the 1-propanol+ water + diisopropyl ether ternary mixture at 101.3 kPa. The data were correlated by NRTL and UNIQUAC models. A separation sequence (a decanter and a single-feed distillation c…

Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibrium in the Systems Methyl 1,1-Dimethylethyl Ether + 2-Methyl-2-propanol and Methyl 1,1-Dimethylethyl Ether + 2-Methylpe…

1999

Consistent vapor−liquid equilibrium data for the binary and ternary systems methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether (MTBE) + 2-methyl-2-propanol (TBA) and methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether (MTBE) + 2-methylpentane + 2-methyl-2-propanol (TBA) are reported at 101.3 kPa at temperatures in the range 328 to 356 K. The results indicate that the systems deviate positively from ideality and that no azeotrope is present. The activity coefficients of the solutions were correlated with composition by Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC models. It is shown that the models allow a very good prediction of the phase equilibrium of the ternary system using the pertinent parameters of the binary system. In addition, the Wisniak−…

Isobaric (vapour+liquid+liquid) equilibrium data for (di-n-propyl ether+n-propyl alcohol+water) and (diisopropyl ether+isopropyl alcohol+water) syste…

2008

Abstract Isobaric (vapour + liquid + liquid) equilibria were measured for the (di-n-propyl ether + n-propyl alcohol + water) and (diisopropyl ether + isopropyl alcohol + water) system at 100 kPa. The apparatus used for the determination of (vapour + liquid + liquid) equilibrium data was an all-glass dynamic recirculating still with an ultrasonic homogenizer couple to the boiling flask. The experimental data demonstrated the existence of a heterogeneous ternary azeotrope for both ternary systems. The (vapour + liquid + liquid) equilibria data were found to be thermodynamically consistent for both systems. The experimental data were compared with the estimation using UNIQUAC and NRTL models a…

University completion among children of immigrants in seven western countries

2013

International audience; We use probit analysis of national datasets in the United States, Canada, England and Wales, Netherlands, Belgium, and France to examine gross university completion by children of immigrants relative to native majorities and completion net of social origins. This allows us to examine the extent to which children of immigrants and natives face penalties or benefits associated with their ethnic origin in their host countries. Some second-generation groups are more likely to complete tertiary education relative to the native majorities including Chinese, Indians, Black Caribbeans and Black Africans in England and Wales, Chinese and South Asians in Canada, and East Asian…

Thermal conductivity measurement of insulating innovative building materials by hot plate and heat flow meter devices: A Round Robin Test

2019

Abstract The characterization of thermal insulation properties of construction materials represents a fundamental step on the building insulation assessment. In recent years innovative materials have been introduced in the market to fulfill the continuously growing requirements of energy saving and sustainability, and their performance is not so reliable and mature as it happens for traditional insulators. The work presents a Round Robin Test realised among six European laboratories hosting hot plates devices to measure the thermal conductivity of four different materials: aerogel, vacuum insulation panels, polystyrene and birch wood fibre insulation boards. After the definition of the comm…

[CuII{(LISQ)˙−}2] (H2L: thioether-appended o-aminophenol ligand) monocation triggers change in donor site from N2O2 to N2O(2)S and valence-tautomerism

2019

Using a potentially tridentate o-aminophenol-based redox-active ligand H2L1 (2-[2-(benzylthio)phenylamino]-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol) in its deprotonated form, [Cu(L1)2] has been synthesized and crystallized as [CuII(L1)2]·CH2Cl2 (1·CH2Cl2). A cyclic voltammetry experiment (in CH2Cl2; V vs. SCE (saturated calomel electrode)) on 1·CH2Cl2 exhibits two oxidative (E = 0.20 V (peak-to-peak separation, ΔEp = 100 mV) and E = 0.90 V (ΔEp = 140 mV)) and two reductive (E = -0.52 V (ΔEp = 110 mV) and E = -0.92 V (ΔEp = 120 mV)) responses. Upon oxidation using a stoichiometric amount of [FeIII(η5-C5H5)2](PF6), 1·CH2Cl2 yielded [Cu(L1)2](PF6) (2). Structural analysis (100 K) reveals that 1·CH2Cl2 is a fou…

The impact of foreign trade on the Netherlands' real CO2 emissions

2019

Aim: CO2 emissions and the related climate change are a global problem, where the direct impact of actions of individual countries depends on their total share in CO2 emissions. In order to assess the potential for policy measures, the openness of an economy, and the related import and export and their impacts on emissions should be considered. The aim of this paper is the attempt to show the real CO2 emissions of the Netherlands as well as the impact of its trade on CO2 emissions in other countries in the world and in the EU in 2015.Design / Research methods: This study was conducted on the group of countries that are the major emitters of CO2 in the world including most of the EU members.…

Age-dependent differences in the effect of phenprocoumon on the vitamin K1-epoxide cycle in rats

1980

Abstract The anticoagulant activity and the pharmacokinetics of phenprocoumon as well as the effect of phenprocoumon on the vitamin K1-epoxide cycle in younger (12 weeks) and older (36 weeks) male inbred Lewis rats has been examined in a study of the mechanism responsible for the increase in the responsiveness to oral anticoagulant drugs (OAD's) with increasing age. After a single i.v.-dose of phenprocoumon (0†355 mg kg−1 the anticoagulant effect obtained was greater in older than in younger rats. There were no differences between younger and older rats in the rate of elimination, volume of distribution and in the free fraction and free concentration values of phenprocoumon in plasma and li…

Kriptovalūtu volatilitātes modelēšana un prognozēšana

2018
