Hydrogen-carbon, carbon-carbon double rearrangement induced by proximity effects. 1-formation of methoxybenzyl ions in the electron impact mass spect…

1991

The 75 eV electron impact mass spectra of 1,1-bis(dimethoxyphenyl)methanes bearing o-methoxy groups are dominated by intense peaks corresponding, at least formally, to benzyl ions [(CH3O)2C6H3CH2]+(b). They arise from ions [((CH3O)2C6H3)2CH]+(a), which are in turn formed from molecular ions by loss of an alkyl radical through benzylic cleavage. The analysis of compounds labelled with 2H or 13C at methoxy groups led to the determination of the mechanism. Hydrogen migration, as hydride, followed by electrophilic substitution by the methylene carbon of the phenyl methylene ether cation through a six-centred transition state is responsible for the formation of benzylic ions b.

A general concept for the introduction of hydroxamic acids into polymers.

2019

Polyethers (PEG) with hydroxamic acid groups enable chelation of a variety of metal ions, coating of metal oxide surfaces and stabilization of nanoparticles. In contrast to catechol, hydroxamic acids are oxidation stable and biocompatible.

Interactions Between Blood Proteins and Nanoparticles Investigated Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations

2019

In the development of new therapeutic agents based on nanoparticles it is of fundamental importance understanding how these substances interact with the underlying biological milieu. Our research is focussed on simulating in silico these interactions using accurate atomistic models, and gather from these information general pictures and simplified models of the underlying phenomena. Here we report results about the interactions of blood proteins with promising hydrophilic polymers used for the coating of therapeutic nanoparticles, about the salt dependent behavior of one of these polymers (poly-(ethylene glycol)) and about the interactions of blood proteins with silica, one of the most used…

Spin transition in three-dimensional bridged coordination polymers of iron(II)–urea-triazoles

2008

Abstract Three-dimensional spin-crossover (SCO) networks of [Fe 2 ( n -Rdubtrz) 3 ](X) 4  ·  n H 2 O ( n -R = (CH 2 ) y , y  = 4, 6, 8, 12; du = diurea; btrz = bis-triazole; X = BF 4 - , ClO 4 - , triflate, tosylate) coordination polymers are prepared by reaction of bridging aliphatic bis-urea triazoles ( n -Rdubtrz) with the iron-salts (FeX 2 ). Investigations of the properties are supported by studies of one-dimensional compounds of [Fe(Rtrzu) 3 ](X) 2 (R =  n -propyl, t -butyl; trzu = urea triazole). Characterization of the complexes is carried out with IR-spectroscopy, elemental analysis, TGA and atomic absorption spectroscopy. SCO-behaviour of all complexes is inspected by magnetic sus…

Progress in Understanding of the Interactions between Functionalized Polyolefins and Organo-Layered Double Hydroxides

2013

The dispersion of organo-layered double hydroxides (O-LDH) in functionalized polyolefins (POs) is investigated. Two different polyethylene matrices (maleic anhydride (MAH) and diethyl maleate functionalized) are tested and a hydrogenated fatty acid modified LDH is used. The attention is focused on evidencing the interaction between the functional groups of the polymer and the O-LDH through FT-IR. Moreover, a combination of solvent fractionation, morphological, and rheological characterizations enables to gain a deeper insight into the structure of these composites. In particular, the formation of bridging bonds between the particles and MAH functionalized macromolecules is assumed, possibly…

A novel mixed valent Cu(II)-Cu(I) 2D framework made of a hydrazone and μ-SCN bridged metallacyclic loops cross-linked by μ3-SCN chains.

2012

A mixed valent copper complex [Cu(II)Cu(I)(L)(μ-SCN)(μ(3)-SCN)](n) (LH = N'-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)acetohydrazide) has been synthesized and characterized. It is a unique example of a 2D mixed valent Cu(II)-Cu(I) interlinked molecular assembly with a very unusual bridging property of the hydrazone ligand. An extraordinary in situ partial Cu(II)→ Cu(I) reduction is observed in this system at room temperature.

Synthesis of Optically Active 15-epi-9,14-Methylene Lipoxin A4

2018

The synthesis of lipoxin A4 and B4 analogues (LXA4, LXB4) to gain access to stabilized inflammation resolving compounds is an important field of research. Starting from known structural requirements of the natural compounds displaying biological activity and a broad investigation of their rapid metabolism, various LXA4 derivatives have been developed and tested. Focusing on variation and stabilization of the conjugated E,E,Z,E C7–C14 tetraene moiety of natural LXA4, a methylene bridge introduced between C9 and C14 might suppress any Z/E isomerization of the C11–C12 olefin. Intending to enable at least known structure variations in connection with the C1–C7 and the C15–C20 fragments, a conve…

Thermodynamics and Kinetics of the Interactions Between Proteins and Hydrophilic Polymers

2021

Hydrophilic polymers are being investigated as possible coating agents for therapeutic nanoparticles because of their capacity to reduce immune response and increase circulation life time. The mechanism of action of these coatings is not well understood although it is clear that they unspecifically reduce the amount of proteins adsorbing on the nanoparticle surface coming in contact with biological fluids. Here we have investigated, using state-of-the-art atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, the equilibrium and kinetic properties of the interactions forming between human serum albumin, the most abundant protein in the blood stream, and two different and promising polymers poly(ethylene…

Binding characteristics of molecularly imprinted polymers based on fungicides in hydroalcoholic media

2015

An iprodione-imprinted polymer was prepared by copolymerization of methacrylamide and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate using a noncovalent imprinting approach. Methacrylamide was chosen using molecular dynamics simulations. To concentrate iprodione from hydro-alcoholic solutions, batch sorption of iprodione on the imprinted polymer were conducted. The equilibrium time for iprodione sorption is 20 min, and the corresponding kinetic mechanism follows the pseudo-second order indicating a strong interaction between iprodione and the imprinted polymer. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models were used to fit the isotherm of iprodione sorption. The imprinted polymer was found to be mo…

Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films of multifunctional, amphiphilic polyethers with cholesterol moieties.

2010

Langmuir films of multifunctional, hydrophilic polyethers containing a hydrophobic cholesterol group (Ch) were studied by surface pressure-mean molecular area (π-mmA) measurements and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). The polyethers were either homopolymers or diblock copolymers of linear poly(glycerol) (lPG), linear poly(glyceryl glycidyl ether) (lPGG), linear poly(ethylene glycol) (lPEG), or hyperbranched poly(glycerol) (hbPG). Surface pressure measurements revealed that the homopolymers lPG and hbPG did not stay at the water surface after spreading and solvent evaporation, in contrast to lPEG. Because of the incorporation of the Ch group in the polymer structure, stable Langmuir films wer…
