Bone-Targeted Cisplatin-Complexed Poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate)-Poly(glutamic acid) Block Polymer Nanoparticles: An Electrochemical Approach

2015

The voltammetric response of different osteotropic multifunctional nanoparticles based on cisplatin-complexed poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate)–poly(glutamic acid) block polymer (CDDP-PBLG-b-PGlu) copolymer, with or without poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate)–poly(ethylene glycol) block polymer (PBLG-b-PEG), and having bone-targeting properties is studied at biologically relevant pH. Significant differences in the cisplatin-centered voltammetric signals allow monitoring of the association of cisplatin to nanoparticles as well as release kinetics from them, in agreement with atomic absorption spectroscopy data. Electrochemical studies reveal that the cisplatin association is significant only if the proporti…

Physiological and molecular analysis of the maturation process in fruits of Clementine Mandarin and one of its late-ripening mutants

2009

Peel color is one of the main features affecting citrus quality. Clementine is a widespread citrus species with several mutants showing a delay in pigmentation and harvesting. This work characterizes the fruit development and ripening of two clementine clones, 'Comune', a widespread variety, and one of its natural mutations, 'Tardivo', which differ by a delayed color-break and extended harvest period. Morphological, chemical, and molecular analyses were carried out on fruits of both genotypes during the whole maturation process. Analysis showed that mutation did not affect ripening characteristics such as juice acidity and TSS. However, biochemical and molecular analysis revealed marked dif…

The Correlation Between Abnormal Uterine Artery Flow in the First Trimester and Genetic Thrombophilic Alteration: A Prospective Case-Controlled Pilot…

2020

Introduction. Evaluation of the first trimester uterine artery flow can predict the development of obstetrical complications. A genotype, making women prone to microthrombi. constitutes the main known susceptibility factor for anomalous development of placenta. Our aim was to study whether polymorphisms of 10 genes leading to blood clotting abnormalities are related to abnormal uterine artery blood flow in the first trimester, and may predict placenta-related diseases. Material and methods. In primary analyses we included 19 singleton pregnancies with abnormal blood flow in the uterine arteries during the first trimester of gestation, and 24 matched control with normal flow patterns. All pa…

Shear-Induced Crystallization and Shear-Induced Dissolution of Poly(ethylene oxide) in Mixtures with Tetrahydronaphthalene and Oligo(dimethyl siloxan…

2003

Cloud point temperatures (T cp ) and crystallization temperatures (T 1/s ) were measured at different constant shear rates for the ternary system tetrahydronaphthalene/poly(ethylene oxide)/oligo(dimethyl siloxane-b-ethylene oxide) using a rheo-optical device and in the case of T 1/s additionnaly a viscometer. This system enables for the first time a joint investigation of both transitions with a given mixture. Shear favors the homogeneous liquid state and the formation of crystals. T cp (liquid/liquid demixing, UCST) shifts to lower and T 1/s (liquid/solid, segregation of PEO) to higher temperatures by several degrees as the shear rate, γ, is increased up to 500 s -1 . The normalized shift …

Shear influence on the phase separation of oligomer blends

1994

Shear influences on the phase separation behaviour of four different blends of ethylene glycol/propylene glycol oligomers, exhibiting upper critical solution temperatures, were investigated. Cloud point curves at rest (turbidity measurements) are reported for all systems, spinodal conditions (light scattering) and tie-lines (analysis of the coexisting phases) are given for some examples. Phase diagrams under shear were obtained from rheological data. They demonstrate that the demixing temperatures of systems where both glycols bear OH end-groups are lowered up to ca. 1°C by shear rates of 1000s−1; the critical composition, generalized to the non-equilibrium conditions of flow, is markedly s…

Using Taguchi method for the optimization of processing variables to prepare porous scaffolds by combined melt mixing/particulate leaching

2017

Synthetic biopolymers have made significant inroads into the development of devices for tissue regeneration. In this context, a challenge is the achievement of appropriate properties mimicking the natural extracellular matrix by fabricating scaffolds presenting mechanical properties, specific surface, porosity and pore interconnection adequate for the final application. This study involved a systematic procedure based on Taguchi method for parameters optimization of melt mixing/particulate leaching combined processes aiming to enhance the performance of the scaffolds. In particular, it was evaluated the effect of time and temperature of melt mixing of the poly(lactic acid) matrix with two w…

Torque rheometry investigation of model transreactions involving condensation polymers: I. Polyesters

2005

The chemical transformations taking place when poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) or poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) are blended in the melt with different low molar mass substances containing hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amine functional groups have been investigated as models of the transreactions, undergone by the polyesters in reactive blending operations. The polyester molecular weight changes caused by the alcoholysis, acidolysis, aminolysis, and esterolysis reactions have been monitored by torque-rheometry, using a Brabender Plasticorder static mixer. The degradation of the polyesters by hydrolysis was also studied, under similar conditions, by the addition of a water-releasing substance …

On the use of PET-LCP copolymers as compatibilizers for PET/LCP blends

1996

Copolyesters of poly[ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP), SBH 1:1:2, have been synthesized by the polycondensation, carried out in the melt at temperatures up to 300 degrees C of sebacic acid (S), 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl (B), and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (H) in the presence of PET. The PET-SBH copolyesters have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc., and the relationships between properties and preparation conditions are discussed. The copolyesters show a biphasic nature, which is more evident for the products synthesized with a thermal profile comprising relatively lower temperatures (220-…

Linear Organo-Soluble Poly(p-benzamide)

2009

Organo-soluble, shape-persistent oligo- and poly(p-benzamide)s were synthesized and characterized. A triethylene glycol (TEG) substituent was introduced to the p-aminobenzoic acid monomer structure as a solubilizing side chain giving 4-amino-2-triethylene glycol benzoic acid. This new monomer was polymerized by the facile polycondensation of the corresponding acid halide derivative of the amine hydrochloric salt. Additionally, a well-defined heptamer was prepared from this monomer on a peptide synthesizer as a model compound. The TEG-substituted oligomers and polymers exhibited good solubility yet high aggregation tendency in common polar and nonpolar organic solvents. The solution self-org…
