2D NMR spectra have been measured at variable temperatures between −100°C and +110°C in a sample of melt crystallized deuterated polyethylene (PE). The line shape could be decomposed into a central part originating from deuterons in the amorphous regions and outer parts from crystalline regions of PE. The “NMR crystallinity” determined from this separation was 72% in agreement with the X-ray crystallinity of 74%. Changes of the crystalline NMR line shape were interperted in terms of oscillations around the chain axis, the r.m.s. oscillation amplitude varying from 5° at 40°C to 12° at 110°C. The central part of the NMR line shape indicates the existence of a “narrow” and a “medium” component…
Decacyclene as complexation manifold: synthesis, structure and properties of its Fe2 and Fe4 slipped triple-decker complexes.
2006
Reaction of [(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe(II)Cl(tmeda)] (tmeda = N,N,N'N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) with a polyanion solution of decacyclene (1) results in the formation of the triple-deckers [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}2-mu2-(eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (3) and [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}4-mu4-(eta(6):eta(6):eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (4). Metal complexation in 3 and 4 occurs on opposite faces of the pi perimeter in an alternating mode. The decacyclene ring adopts a gently twisted molecular propeller geometry with twofold crystallographic symmetry (C2). Complex 4 crystallizes in the chiral space group C222(1); the investigated crystal only contains decacyclene rings with M chirality. The handedness can be ass…

Fabrication of quercetin and curcumin bionanovesicles for the prevention and rapid regeneration of full-thickness skin defects on mice
2013
In the present work biocompatible quercetin and curcumin nanovesicles were developed as a novel approach to prevent and restore skin tissue defects on chronic cutaneous pathologies. Stable and suitable quercetin- and curcumin-loaded phospholipid vesicles, namely liposomes and penetration enhancer-containing vesicles (PEVs), were prepared. Vesicles were made from a highly biocompatible mixture of phospholipids and alternatively a natural polyphenol, quercetin or curcumin. Liposomes were obtained by adding water, while PEVs by adding polyethylene glycol 400 and Oramix®CG110 to the water phase. Transmission electron microscopy, cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy and small- and wide-ang…
Effect of cyclic loading on fracture strength and microleakage of a quartz fiber dowel with different adhesive, cement and resin core material combin…
2010
Background: This study evaluated the performance of different adhesive-cement-core combinations coupled with quartz fiber dowels after cyclic loading and fracture strength tests and assessed the microleakage using dye penetration method. Methods: Forty maxillary canines (n=10 per group) were restored with fiber dowels (Quartz fiber DT Light Post) and four adhesive-cement-core material combinations [(Group 1: All-Bond 2+C&B (root) / All-Bond 2+Biscore (core); Group 2: All-Bond 2+Bisfil 2B (root) / All-Bond 2+Bisfil 2B (core); Group 3: Scotchbond 1+RelyX ARC (root) / Scotchbond 1+Supreme (core); Group 4: RelyX Unicem (root) / Scotchbond 1+Filtek Supreme (core)]. The specimens were initially c…
Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of the bimetallic cyano-bridged [(η5-C5H5)(PPh3)2Ru(μ-CN)Ru(PPh3)2(η5-C5H5)][PF6]
2005
Abstract The bimetallic cyano-bridged [(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )(PPh 3 ) 2 Ru(μ-CN)Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 (η 5 -C 5 H 5 )][PF 6 ] ( 1 ) was prepared by reaction of [(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )(PPh 3 ) 2 RuCl] with N , N ′-bis(cyanomethyl)ethylenediamine. The single crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction showed crystallization on the triclinic P1 space group with a perfect alignment of the cyanide bridges. This accentric crystallization was explored having in view the NLO properties at the macroscopic level, determined by the Kurtz Powder technique. Besides the very low efficiency values for the second harmonic generation, the value obtained for the bimetallic complex 1 showed to be higher than one of the parent…
Polarity profiles in reverse micelles of Triton X-100, as studied by spin probe and absorption probe techniques
1997
The microenvironment characteristics — polarity, viscosity and order degree - in Triton X-100 reverse micelles (RM) in cyclohexane and benzene — n-hexane 30 : 70 (v/v), were investigated with the aid of a homologous series of cationic spin probes, CAT n, of 5- and 16-doxyl stearic acids and of a new absorption probe, 4-nitropyridine-N-oxide (NP). The spectral parameters were related to local hydration values by means of a series of poly(oxyethylene) (PEO)/water calibration mixtures. All results regarding the polarities in RM and calibration mixtures have been expressed in terms of Kosower's Z values, by determining the linear dependence of the transition energies of NP, ENP, on Z, for a ser…
Ultrastructural and histochemical analysis reveals ethylene-induced responses underlying reduced peel collapse in detached citrus fruit
2010
Fruits from many citrus cultivars develop depressed areas in the flavedo (outer part of the peel) and albedo (inner part) following detachment. Although ultrastructural analysis may provide important information about multiple plant responses to stresses and external stimuli at the cell and tissue levels, and despite the proved efficacy of ethylene in reducing peel damage in citrus fruit, cytological responses of this horticultural crop to protective ethylene concentrations have not yet been reported. We show that applying high ethylene levels (2 mu L L(-1) for 14 days) causes sublethal stress as it favored the alteration of cuticle, vacuole, middle lamella and primary wall, especially in t…
Inhalable Formulation Based on Lipid–Polymer Hybrid Nanoparticles for the Macrophage Targeted Delivery of Roflumilast
2022
Here, novel lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPHNPs), targeted to lung macrophages, were realized as potential carriers for Roflumilast administration in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). To achieve this, Roflumilast-loaded fluorescent polymeric nanoparticles, based on a polyaspartamide-polycaprolactone graft copolymer, and lipid vesicles, made from 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine and 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-phosphoethanolamine-N-(polyethylene glycol)-mannose, were properly combined using a two-step method, successfully obtaining Roflumilast-loaded hybrid fluorescent nanoparticles (Man-LPHFNPs@Roflumilast). These exhibit colloidal size and a ne…
Oxidative DNA cleavage by copper ternary complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline and ethylenediamine-sulfonamide derivatives
2009
Abstract Ternary copper(II) complexes (1–3) of 1,10-phenanthroline and ethylenediamine-R-sulfonamide derivatives (R = benzene, toluene and naphthalene rings) have been synthesized and characterized with the aid of X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The crystal structures of the complexes show that the coordination polyhedron around copper(II) is distorted square planar. Both 1,10-phenanthroline and ethylenediamine-R-sulfonamide act as bidentate ligands. The three structures are stabilized by π–π stacking interactions. The interaction of the complexes with calf thymus DNA has been investigated by thermal denaturation studies which indicated that DNA was stabi…
