Mountain Building in Taiwan: Insights From 3‐D Geodynamic Models
2019
Taiwan is widely considered to be a typical example of an arc-continent collision surrounded by two opposite dipping subduction zones. The manner by which the interaction of the two neighboring slabs caused plate collision and mountain building is insufficiently understood. Various hypotheses have been proposed, but the geodynamic feasibility of those remains to be tested. Here we present 3-D thermomechanical models to study the geodynamic evolution process of a Taiwan-like setting after an initial transform fault was consumed. In our model setup, the boundary between the Eurasian plate and the South China Sea is northeast trending. The results show that all simulations result in toroidal m…
Free movement of services in the European Union and in the Eurasian Economic Union. Similarities and differences
2017
The European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are international organizations integrating member states, primarily in the economic field. Both organizations guarantee four economic freedoms: free movement of goods, services, labor, and capital. One of these freedoms:free movement of services is particularly important. It should be noted that within the customs union of the EU and the EAEU the internal customs barriers have been eliminated, and for the exchange of services between these organizations, only the borders between the two unions remain an obstacle. For this reason, legal regulations concerning the free movement of services in the EU and the EAEU determine the opp…
Factors affecting population dynamics of Eurasian woodcocks wintering in France: assessing the efficiency of a hunting-free reserve
2005
International audience; The Eurasian woodcock Scolopax rusticola is a migratory bird of major importance for hunting, which is susceptible to habitat loss and the stochastic effects of severe winter weather. Conservation issues mostly concerned regulation of hunting, but the efficiency of hunting-free reserves has never been investigated. We studied causes of mortality and survival probabilities of 98 radio-tagged woodcocks in a reserve with no hunting and in an adjoining hunting area in Brittany (France). Predation, mostly by mammalian predators on fields at night, was similar among adults and yearlings, while hunting mortality was more important in yearlings. Overall winter survival proba…
Little Egret Egretta garzetta (Linnaeus, 1766) ( Pelecaniformes Ardeidae) and Eurasian crag martin Ptyonoprogne rupestris (Scopoli, 1769) (Passerifor…
2021
For the first time, the nesting of Eurasian crag martin Ptyonoprogne rupestris (Scopoli, 1769) (Passeriformes Hirundinidae) and Little egret Egretta garzetta (Linnaeus, 1766) (Pelecaniformes Ardeidae) in the Aegadian Islands (W-Sicily, Italy) is reported. Of particular interest is the nesting of the Little egret on the island of Maraone resulting in the first report for Sicily of a heronry on a marine island. Although this nesting environment has already been established in Sardinia, it should be emphasized that until now the establishment of a heronry has never been detected on an islet so far from the mainland.
GrassPlot v. 2.00 : first update on the database of multi-scale plant diversity in Palaearctic grasslands
2019
Abstract: GrassPlot is a collaborative vegetation-plot database organised by the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) and listed in the Global Index of Vegetation-Plot Databases (GIVD ID EU-00-003). Following a previous Long Database Report (Dengler et al. 2018, Phyto- coenologia 48, 331–347), we provide here the first update on content and functionality of GrassPlot. The current version (GrassPlot v. 2.00) contains a total of 190,673 plots of different grain sizes across 28,171 independent plots, with 4,654 nested-plot series including at least four grain sizes. The database has improved its content as well as its functionality, including addition and harmonization of header data (land use,…
Russian concept of the Eurasian Aerospace Defense System. Analysis of the problem
2018
The author of the article describes the most important theses of A. Podberezkin plan against the geopolitical Russia background which form a paradigm of a common security in Russian terms on a strategic area of Eurasia. It is of a particular significance in view of the growing threats to modern world. Especially of hazardous nature is current problem of North Korea in connection with nuclear testing carried out by unpredictable regime of Kim Jong-un which creates the risk that sudden conflict can drag the whole Peninsula into a war. This, in turn, would lead to the US intervention there. Effects of the possible conflict involving superpower are hard to predict. Another current problem is Mo…
Brachyodonty and hypsodontyin some Palaeogene Eurasiatic Lagomorphs
1977
Abstract Palaeogene Eurasiatic lagomorphs show more or less different degrees and kinds of brachiodonty and hypsodonty in the cheek teeth. No fully brachyodont lagomorphs are known up to the present. The probably Paleocene Mimolagus from Western Kansu shows the less advanced stage against partial hypsodonty in the upper cheek teeth. Partial hypsodonty is more advanced in the late Eocene Mongolian genera Shamolagus, Gobiolagus and Lushilagus. Roots, however, are still well developed in the cheek teeth. Some recent discoveries from earlier Oligocene sites in France and Germany seem to represent a comparable degree of hypsodonty. The Asiatic Oligocene Desmatolagus is partiallyhypsodont with ro…
The genetic prehistory of the Baltic Sea region
2018
Correction: Nature communications 9 (2018), art. no. 1494 doi:10.1038/s41467-018-03872-y While the series of events that shaped the transition between foraging societies and food producers are well described for Central and Southern Europe, genetic evidence from Northern Europe surrounding the Baltic Sea is still sparse. Here, we report genome-wide DNA data from 38 ancient North Europeans ranging from similar to 9500 to 2200 years before present. Our analysis provides genetic evidence that hunter-gatherers settled Scandinavia via two routes. We reveal that the first Scandinavian farmers derive their ancestry from Anatolia 1000 years earlier than previously demonstrated. The range of Mesolit…
Evolution tectonique méso-cénozoïque du bassin de Paris: contraintes stratigraphiques 3D
2000
Abstract 3D stratigraphic geometries of the intracratonic Meso-Cenozoic Paris Basin were obtained by sequence stratigraphic correlations of around 1 100 wells (well-logs). The basin records the major tectonic events of the western part of the Eurasian Plate, i.e. opening and closure of the Tethys and opening of the Atlantic. From earlier Triassic to Late Jurassic, the Paris Basin was a broad subsiding area in an extensional framework, with a larger size than the present-day basin. During the Aalenian time, the subsidence pattern changes drastically (early stage of the central Atlantic opening). Further steps of the opening of the Ligurian Tethys (base Hettangian, late Pliensbachian;...) and…
Svoboda dviženiâ tovarov v ramkah Evrazijskogo èkonomičeskogo soûza i Evropejskogo soûza : pravovoj analiz
2016
W artykule omówiono prawne aspekty swobody przepływu towarów w Unii Euroazjatyckiej i Unii Europejskiej. W tym względzie przeanalizowano podobieństwa i różnice w zakresie klasyfikacji i definicji towarów obu organizacji. Oprócz tego określono podobieństwa i różnice w odniesieniu do unii celnej i wspólnego rynku obu organizacji, a także w zakresie ograniczeń swobody przepływu unijnych i euroazjatyckich towarów. Autor przedstawił też ewentualne scenariusze w zakresie ustanowienia nowych regulacji prawnych dotyczących wymiany handlowej pomiędzy EAUG i UE
