QCD resummation effects in forward J/ψ and very backward jet inclusive production at the LHC

´ We propose and study the inclusive production of a forward J/ψ and a very backward jet at the LHC as an observable to reveal high-energy resummation effects à la BFKL. Influence of the age of amorphous nonannealed As2S3 thin films on holographic properties

The dependences of the maximal first order diffraction efficiency and the corresponding specific recording energy on the holographic grating period were studied. Grating period was varied from 0.40 to 70.0 μm. Both fresh and aged films were used. A large holographic recording efficiency decrease in the course of aging is found to take place. These changes are due to the effective film grain size increase caused by the relaxational structural changes and atmospheric oxygen exposure. Results are explained with the aid of stress fields induced by the evaporation and holographic recording. The obtained results can be used to optimize the hologram recording in amorphous chalcogenide films.

International audience; This study was carried out in order to develop experimental methodology using a camera to monitor the evolution of the surface of a liquid droplet deposited on a solid surface composed of polypropylene. The droplet was exposed to various ambient relative humidity conditions (11.3%, 43.2%, 68.9% and 75.5%). Two types of liquid were investigated: distilled water and water containing nutritive substances (salmon “juice”). At 11.3% relative humidity, it takes 40% longer to evaporate a water droplet (initial weight 0.36 g, volume 360 μL, radius 6.5 × 10−3 m) than a salmon “juice” droplet (3.66 h for distilled water, 2.83 h for salmon “juice”). Nanofilm metal layers as vacuum quality sensors

Abstract A monitoring device for vacuum quality is realized by lowest cost single use oxygen sensors for vacuum insulation panels. They use the pressure dependence of oxide layer growth thickness on electrically measured metal nanofilms. These films were manufactured by e-beam evaporation, characterized in terms of resistance change with subsequent modeling of underlying mechanisms.

Towards saturation of the electron-capture delayed fission probability : The new isotopes 240Es and 236Bk

The new neutron-deficient nuclei 240Es and 236Bk were synthesised at the gas-filled recoil separator RITU. They were identified by their radioactive decay chains starting from 240Es produced in the fusion–evaporation reaction 209Bi(34S,3n)240Es. Half-lives of 6(2) sand 22+13−6swere obtained for 240Es and 236Bk, respectively. Two groups of αparticles with energies Eα=8.19(3) MeVand 8.09(3) MeVwere unambiguously assigned to 240Es. Electron-capture delayed fission branches with probabilities of 0.16(6)and 0.04(2)were measured for 240Es and 236Bk, respectively. These new data show a continuation of the exponential increase of ECDF probabilities in more neutron-deficient isotopes. peerReviewed

DSC study on hyaluronan drying and hydration

Abstract The processes of hyaluronan (HYA) drying and hydration were studied using differential scanning calorimetry. In the first approach the isoconversional Kissinger–Akahita–Sunose (KAS) method was applied in order to determine actual activation energies of evaporation of pure water and water from concentrated HYA solutions. Since the evaporation is a single-step process, the activation energies for pure water provided results consistent with tabulated values of evaporation enthalpies. Production of refractory elements close to the Z=N line using the ion-guide technique

Production of neutron-deficient isotopes of refractory elements in the A = 80-88 region was studied using the IGISOL technique and the 165 MeV Si-32 + Ni-nat reaction. Radioactive isotopes of Y through Mo could be produced up to the M-T = + 1 line. New information on the decay of the A = 82 and 85 nuclei, including a more detailed decay scheme and more accurate half-life for Y-82, was obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Study and optimization of freeze-drying cycles of a model probiotic strain

This work is based on the experimental study of the freeze-drying process to understand the impact of numerous factors on the survival rates of a model probiotic strain of Lactobacillus casei type. With the aim to find out if cell density in the matrix and survival rates are linked, we have studied the location of the cells after freeze drying inside a porous  matrix composed of a lactose basis with a polymer, the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in various amounts. The best survival rate were obtained at slow freezing rate for a formulation containing 5% (m/V) of lactose and 5% (m/V) of PVP. Keywords: Freeze-Drying; Freezing; Probiotics; L. Casei ATCC 393

Summary Discriminating moisture sources with precision is an important requirement to better understand the processes involved in extreme rainfall episodes. In a previous contribution by Gangoiti et al. (2011b), an innovative technique was presented to assess surface moisture sources contributing to a target precipitation within a Lagrangian framework. The technique was based in transporting parcels of vapor, representing the target precipitation, across a set of nested grids covering a large area at different resolutions. Tetrathiotetracene thin film morphology and electrical properties

The electrical properties of organic thin films are determined by their chemical constituents and the morphology of the films deposited. In this paper the morphology of vacuum sublimed (7?10-6 mbar) tetrathiotetracene (TTT) thin films is shown to be strongly affected by the thermal deposition temperature (222-350 K) and rate of deposition. Mostly needle-like morphologies are identified by scanning electron microscopy. Optimal TTT purity (a pre-requisite for device preparation via subsequent oxidation) is evidenced by their initially low electrical conductivity.
