Histoincompatibility reactions in the hydrocoral Millepora dichotoma

1983

The xenogeneic- and allogeneic immunological specificity of the hydrocoral Millepora dichotoma has been investigated. Xenogeneic histoicompatibility reactions have been observed between this hydrocoral and a series of species belonging to the Demospongiae and to the Anthozoa (both Hexacorallia and Octocorallia). The xenogeneic histoincompatibility reactions proceed in the following sequence: (a) Species-unspecific sensitization; (b) necrosis formation, which is very likely due to an autolytic process; (c) callus formation, due to an hyperplastic growth of stolons; and (d) formation of a contact barrier in form of a barrier layer or a restored stolonial layer. Allogeneic histoincompatibility…

Computing Euclidean Steiner trees over segments

2020

In the classical Euclidean Steiner minimum tree (SMT) problem, we are given a set of points in the Euclidean plane and we are supposed to find the minimum length tree that connects all these points, allowing the addition of arbitrary additional points. We investigate the variant of the problem where the input is a set of line segments. We allow these segments to have length 0, i.e., they are points and hence we generalize the classical problem. Furthermore, they are allowed to intersect such that we can model polygonal input. As in the GeoSteiner approach of Juhl et al. (Math Program Comput 10(2):487–532, 2018) for the classical case, we use a two-phase approach where we construct a superse…

Evolution of small-scale magnetic elements in the vicinity of granular-size swirl convective motions

2014

Advances in solar instrumentation have led to a widespread usage of time series to study the dynamics of solar features, specially at small spatial scales and at very fast cadences. Physical processes at such scales are determinant as building blocks for many others occurring from the lower to the upper layers of the solar atmosphere and beyond, ultimately for understanding the bigger picture of solar activity. Ground-based (SST) and space-borne (Hinode) high-resolution solar data are analyzed in a quiet Sun region displaying negative polarity small-scale magnetic concentrations and a cluster of bright points observed in G-band and Ca II H images. The studied region is characterized by the …

Constrained control of a nonlinear two point boundary value problem, I

1994

In this paper we consider an optimal control problem for a nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation with integral constraints. A necessary optimality condition in form of the Pontryagin minimum principle is derived. The proof is based on McShane-variations of the optimal control, a thorough study of their behaviour in dependence of some denning parameters, a generalized Green formula for second order ordinary differential equations with measurable coefficients and certain tools of convex analysis.

Defining Kawasaki disease and pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection during SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in…

2021

Abstract Background There is mounting evidence on the existence of a Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection (PIMS-TS), sharing similarities with Kawasaki Disease (KD). The main outcome of the study were to better characterize the clinical features and the treatment response of PIMS-TS and to explore its relationship with KD determining whether KD and PIMS are two distinct entities. Methods The Rheumatology Study Group of the Italian Pediatric Society launched a survey to enroll patients diagnosed with KD (Kawasaki Disease Group – KDG) or KD-like (Kawacovid Group - KCG) disease between February 1st 2020, and May 31st 2020. Pressure of the hot gas in simulations of galaxy clusters

2016

We analyze the radial pressure profiles, the ICM clumping factor and the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) scaling relations of a sample of simulated galaxy clusters and groups identified in a set of hydrodynamical simulations based on an updated version of the TreePM-SPH GADGET-3 code. Three different sets of simulations are performed: the first assumes non-radiative physics, the others include, among other processes, AGN and/or stellar feedback. Our results are analyzed as a function of redshift, ICM physics, cluster mass and cluster cool-coreness or dynamical state. In general, the mean pressure profiles obtained for our sample of groups and clusters show a good agreement with X-ray and SZ observa…

Statistical Mechanics of the Integrable Models

1987

There is an infinity of classically integrable models. The only ones we can consider here, and these only briefly, are: the sine-Gordon (s-G) model $${\phi _{{\rm{xx}}}}{}^ - {\phi _{{\rm{tt}}}} = {{\rm{m}}^2}\sin \phi ,$$ (1.1) the sinh-Gordon (sinh-G) model $${\phi _{{\rm{xx}}}}{}^ - {\phi _{{\rm{tt}}}} = {{\rm{m}}^2}\sinh \phi ,$$ (1.2) and the repulsive and attractive non-linear Schrodinger (NLS) models $${}^ - {\rm{i}}{\phi _{\rm{t}}} = {\phi _{{\rm{xx}}}}{}^ - 2{\rm{c}}\phi {\left| \phi \right|^2}.$$ (1.3) The “attractive” NLS has real coupling constant c 0; φ is complex. In (1.1) and (1.2) m is a mass (ħ = c = 1) and φ is real. These 4 integrable models are in one space and one time …

Quantum and Classical Statistical Mechanics of the Non-Linear Schrödinger, Sinh-Gordon and Sine-Gordon Equations

1985

We are going to describe our work on the quantum and classical statistical mechanics of some exactly integrable non-linear one dimensional systems. The simplest is the non-linear Schrodinger equation (NLS) $$i{\psi _t} = - {\psi _{XX}} + 2c{\psi ^ + }\psi \psi $$ (1) where c, the coupling constant, is positive. The others are the sine- and sinh-Gordon equations (sG and shG) $${\phi _{xx}} - {\phi _{tt}} = {m^2}\sin \phi $$ (1.2) $${\phi _{xx}} - {\phi _{tt}} = {m^2}\sinh \phi $$ (1.3)

Non-Markovian master equation for the XX central spin model

2008

The non-Markovian correlated projection operator technique is applied to the model of a central spin coupled to a spin bath through non uniform XX Heisenberg coupling. The second order results of the Nakajima-Zwanzig and of the time-convolutionless methods are compared with the exact solution considering a fully polarized initial bath state.

gg→HH : Combined uncertainties

2021

In this paper we discuss the combination of the usual renormalization and factorization scale uncertainties of Higgs-pair production via gluon fusion with the novel uncertainties originating from the scheme and scale choice of the virtual top mass. Moreover, we address the uncertainties related to the top-mass definition for different values of the trilinear Higgs coupling and their combination with the other uncertainties.
