International audience; In this paper, we propose new techniques to improve the quality of similarity queries over image databases performing association rule mining over textual descriptions and automatically extracted features of the image content. Based on the knowledge mined, each query posed is rewritten in order to better meet the user expectations. The analysis of household survey data regularly conducted by INSEE from 1973 to 1994 allows to detect behaviors about anticipation and perception purpose concerning price and employment. On the Influence of Grammars on Crossover in Grammatical Evolution

Standard grammatical evolution (GE) uses a one-point crossover (“ripple crossover”) that exchanges codons between two genotypes. The two resulting genotypes are then mapped to their respective phenotypes using a Backus-Naur form grammar. This article studies how different types of grammars affect the resulting individuals of a ripple crossover. We distinguish different grammars based on the expected number of non-terminals chosen when mapping genotype codons to phenotypes, \(B_{avg}\). The grammars only differ in \(B_{avg}\) but can express the same phenotypes. “Can do!” Teacher Promotion of Optimism in Response to Student Failure Expectation Expressions in Classroom Discourse

This study offers detailed observational analyses of how teachers use optimism as an instructional resource when responding to students’ failure expectation displays in classroom situations. The results were based on video-recordings of 25 lessons in two Finnish part-time special education settings, analysed by means of applied conversation analysis. The results showed that the teachers boosted optimism by inverting students’ negative utterances, giving examples of successful experiences of peers, offering praise for students’ earlier performance or focusing on problems through instructional support.
