Crystal structures and magnetic properties of two- and three-dimensional malonato-bridged manganese(ii) complexes

Two new manganese(II) compounds of formula [Mn(mal)(H2O)(2,4′-bpy)]n (1) and [Mn2(mal)2(H2O)2(4,4′-bpy)]n (2) (2,4′-bpy = 2,4′-bipyridine, 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine and H2mal = malonic acid) have been prepared and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Their structures are made up of two- (1) and three-dimensional (2) arrangements of manganese atoms linked by carboxylate-malonate groups in the anti–syn bridging mode (1 and 2) and bis(monodentate) 4,4′-bpy (2). The 2,4′-bpy group in 1 acts as a monodentate ligand. A novel type of ion exchanger was prepared by multipoint covalent binding of polystyrene chains onto the surface of porous silica followed by polymer-analogous modification of the bonded layer. Both anion and cation exchangers were synthesized and examined in the separation of nucleotides and proteins. Rapid and efficient separation of basic polypeptides on strong anion exchangers and that of acidic polypeptides on strong cation exchangers could be achieved. For the separation of complete mixtures of polypeptides the application of zwitter-ionic ion exchangers can be recommended.

In order to find out how Ukrainian practitioners understand and evaluate management control innovation - beyond budgeting - this study examines their attitudes towards this concept and meanings they attach to it in the process of learning and sensemaking. Results show how the content and meaning of novel management innovation is reinterpreted and negotiated in new institutional context. Exchange Rate and Interest-Rate Driven Competitive Advantages in the EMU

Real exchange and interest rates may still fluctuate inside the EMU and give rise to changes in competitiveness. We find, in contrast to what is generally expected, no convergence in these variables after the introduction of the euro. On the contrary, a divergence is found that is extraordinary when compared to the preceding 40 years. The magnitude of the divergence should urge on a wave of restructuring in the EMU, conditioned upon adequate policy responses. The worst-case scenario involves a flight to structural support and protectionism, challenging the whole idea of the EMU.
