2018
Different migration processes have been carried out in history, which usually travel in conditions of vulnerability and undermine the dignity of people. Therefore, currently, the migration of unaccompanied minors shakes the receiving society; it is a defenseless population group that is exposed to situations of vulnerability. Unaccompanied immigrant minors and in an irregular situation, whether adolescents, girls or boys, are faced with a dream to improve their lives and those of their families that they left in their country; this is a very dangerous journey where, during the crossing, they are condemned to risk situations and adventures, without the support and safety of their families. T…
Pobreza en España: jóvenes y mujeres en los espacios sociales de la vulnerabilidad
2011
This number of Quaderns presents the results of two research projects of the program I+D+i financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education for the period 2008 to 2011. The first project is called 'New poverty and social exclusion among youth in Spain' and was supervised by Ph. D. Ignasi Brunet. The second project was developed under the name of 'Poverty, social exclusion and gender inequality in Spain' and was supervised by Ph. D. Ángel Belzunegui. Both projects counted with a group formed by researchers from six Spanish universities from different regions where field work was carried out: Andalucía, Aragón, Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, Murcia y País Vasco. The first project has analyzed p…
Size Exclusion Chromatography of Proteins on Improved Bonded Silica Columns
1985
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the size exclusion chromatography (SEC) of proteins on improved bonded silica columns. Over the past few years, the use of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been extended to protein chemistry as a powerful separation and isolation technique. A spectrum of variants providing high resolution potential—ion exchange, reversed phase, hydrophobic interaction, affinity, and size exclusion—is available. Of these, SEC is the simplest with respect to method development and equipment design: proteins are separated according to their size in a short and predictable time span under isocratic conditions. The SEC columns are packed with micro-partic…
Bound states of $^+$ in nuclei
2005
We study the binding energy and the width of the $^+$ in nuclei, associated to the $K N$ and $ K N$ components. The first one leads to negligible contributions while the second one leads to a sizeable attraction, enough to bind the $^+$ in nuclei. Pauli blocking and binding effects on the $K N$ decay reduce considerably the $^+$ decay width in nuclei and medium effects associated to the $ K N$ component also lead to a very small width, as a consequence of which one finds separation between the bound levels considerably larger than the width of the states.
Merit-based exclusion in Finnish music schools
2019
In this article I analyse merit-based exclusion in Finnish music schools for children and young people. I base my study on my earlier research on meritocracy and written data collected online from current and former music school students in the autumn and winter of 2015–2016. I am able to show there are implicit and explicit merit-based hierarchies in the music school. Hierarchies and exclusion are shown to be connected to the institution’s meritocratic features. As the hierarchies are merit-based, it is hard to question them. The hierarchies justify excluding students from certain practices such as performances. These practices are in fact learning opportunities, as has been established by…
The link between vulnerability and social exclusion and criminal trajectories. An association study
2017
Nuclear cross sections in 16O for β beam neutrinos at intermediate energies
2006
The nuclear cross sections for charged lepton production induced by $\beta$ beam neutrinos (anti-neutrinos) in $^{16}$O have been presented at intermediate energies corresponding to the Lorentz boost factor $\gamma<250 (150)$. The calculations for quasi-elastic lepton production includes the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The calculations for the inelastic lepton production is done in the $\Delta$ dominance model. The renormalization of $\Delta$ properties in a nuclear medium and final state interactions of pions with the final nucleus are taken into account. The results may be useful in performing feasibility s…
Fluorescence of soil humic acids and their fractions obtained by tandem size exclusion chromatography-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis
2002
Humic acids (HAs) extracted from soils of different origin (chernozem, ferralsol and ranker) and their fractions (A, B and C+D) obtained by tandem size exclusion chromatography–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis were investigated by steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy in the emission mode. Independently of HA source, high molecular size fractions A and B are shown to be weakly fluorescent. The main fluorophores, especially those emitting at long wavelength (around 500–510 nm), are contained in the polar and low molecular size fractions C+D. As indicated by the observed pH effect, aromatic structures bearing carboxylate and OH substituents may be involved in these longer wavelength emissi…
Fluorinated and pegylated polyaspartamide derivatives to increase solubility and efficacy of Flutamide
2012
New fluorinated amphiphilic copolymers based on a biocompatible polyaspartamide have been prepared in order to obtain polymeric micelles useful for delivering anticancer drugs. In particular, α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-d,l-aspartamide (PHEA) has been derivatized with polyethylene glycol (PEG(2000)) and ethylendiamine (EDA). Both these portions form the hydrophilic part of the copolymer, while the hydrophobic moiety is given by 1,2,4-oxadiazoles: 5-pentafluorophenyl-3-perfluoroheptyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (PPOX) or 3-carboxyethyl-5-pentadecafluoroheptyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (CPOX). Copolymers named PHEA-PEG(2000)-EDA-PPOX and PHEA-PEG(2000)-EDA-CPOX have been prepared with various degrees of derivati…
