Exercise programs for subjects with low back disorders.
2007
Exercise has played a central role in rehabilitation of subjects with low back pain. The research in this field has intensified since the 1980s. Low back pain has been associated with both physically stressful and sedentary occupations. There is no clear association between low back pain and physical activity during leisure time. Many studies have shown that subjects with back pain have impairments in muscular and connective tissue, functional limitations in muscular strength, endurance, speed, and neuromuscular functions, and physical, social and psychological disabilities. The ultimate aims of the exercise-based programs are to reduce and prevent these impairments, functional limitations …
Load progression criteria in exercise programmes in lower limb tendinopathy: a systematic review
2020
ObjectiveThe objective of this study is to summarise and analyse the current literature about what progression criteria are applied in loading exercise programmes in lower limb tendinopathies and their evidence and effectiveness.DesignSystematic review.MethodsPubMed, Embase, Scopus and PEDrowere searched from inception to 24 September 2020. The inclusion criteria were randomised controlled trials that included patients with midportion Achilles, patellar or gluteal tendinopathy; assessed function, pain or performance; included at least one group where progressive physical exercise was administered as monotherapy; included at least a control group. We excluded studies that included subjects w…

Effectiveness of tailored exercise therapy in patients with knee osteoarthritis and comorbidity: a randomized controlled trial

Stratified exercise therapy by physical therapists in primary care is feasible in patients with knee osteoarthritis
2018
Background There is strong evidence that exercise therapy is effective in reducing pain and activity limitations in knee osteoarthritis (OA), but effect sizes are low to moderate. Stratified exercise therapy tailored to clinically relevant subgroups of patients is expected to optimise treatment effects in a cost-effective manner. Objectives This study aimed to explore the feasibility of a newly developed model of stratified exercise therapy in primary care. Methods A mixed method design was used, consisting of an uncontrolled pretest-posttest design and a process evaluation. Eligible patients visiting a participating primary care physical therapist (PT) were included. Based on our model, pa…

Exploring Potential Benefits of Accumulated Multicomponent-Training in Non-Active Older Adults: From Physical Fitness to Mental Health
2021
The present study aimed to analyze the impact of a multicomponent training (MCT) program in a group of non-active older adults, comparing two different dose distributions. Twenty-four individuals, assigned to two groups, completed 15 weeks of MCT (2 days/week). The continuous group (CMCT
Effectiveness of a Program Combining Strengthening, Stretching, and Aerobic Training Exercises in a Standing versus a Sitting Position in Overweight …
2020
There is an increasing incidence, prevalence, and burden of knee osteoarthritis due to a global increase in obesity and an aging population. The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of the addition of aerobic exercises performed in an unloaded or loaded position to a conventional exercise program in overweight subjects with knee osteoarthritis. Twenty-four subjects were randomly allocated to receive 36 sessions of 30-min duration of either sitting aerobic exercises (experimental group) or standing aerobic exercises (control group). Pain intensity, knee disability, and quality-of-life data were collected at baseline and at 12, 24, and 36 sessions. Generalized linear mixe…
