Adding Knowledge Extracted by Association Rules into Similarity Queries

International audience; In this paper, we propose new techniques to improve the quality of similarity queries over image databases performing association rule mining over textual descriptions and automatically extracted features of the image content. Based on the knowledge mined, each query posed is rewritten in order to better meet the user expectations. We propose an extension of SQL aimed at exploring mining processes over complex data, generating association rules that extract semantic information from the textual description superimposed to the extracted features, thereafter using them to rewrite the queries. The analysis of household survey data regularly conducted by INSEE from 1973 to 1994 allows to detect behaviors about anticipation and perception purpose concerning price and employment. The nature of available information offers the opportunity first to develop a rational expectation test for qualitative data, then to point out expectation errors associated to optimistic and/or pessimistic attitudes for the evolution of these two economic variables. This study offers detailed observational analyses of how teachers use optimism as an instructional resource when responding to students’ failure expectation displays in classroom situations. The results were based on video-recordings of 25 lessons in two Finnish part-time special education settings, analysed by means of applied conversation analysis. The results showed that the teachers boosted optimism by inverting students’ negative utterances, giving examples of successful experiences of peers, offering praise for students’ earlier performance or focusing on problems through instructional support. Acceptability of partially dealcoholized wines - Measuring the impact of sensory and information cues on overall liking in real-life settings

International audience; In this study, the effect of partial alcohol reduction in wine on consumer expectation and overall liking was investigated in real-life settings (by a Home-Use-Test). By varying the wine in the bottle and by manipulating the information on the label, it was possible to assess the relative impact of sensory properties and information cues on overall liking. Standard Chardonnay and Syrah wines were partially dealcoholized from about 13.5% to about 9.5%. Affinity Distributions of a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Calculated Numerically by the Expectation-Maximization Method

Affinity distributions are calculated from adsorption isotherm data obtained for the enantiomers of L- and D-phenylalanine anilide (PA) on native and thermally annealed polymers molecularly imprinted with L-PA. The calculation is obtained with an iterative algorithm called expectation-maximization that does not require prior fit of the data to an isotherm model before inversion and thus yields a distribution indicative of the data only.
