Searching Silk Fabrics by Images Leveraging on Knowledge Graph and Domain Expert Rules

The production of European silk textile is an endangered intangible cultural heritage. Digital tools can nowadays be developed to help preserving it, or even to make it more accessible for the public and the fashion industry. In this paper, we propose an image-based retrieval tool that leverages on a knowledge graph describing the silk textile production as well as rules formulated by experts of this domain. Out of several possible similarity scenarios, two have proven to work best and have been integrated into an exploratory search engine.
Automated Creation of Expert Systems with the InteKRator Toolbox

Expert systems have a long tradition in both medical informatics and artificial intelligence research. Traditionally, such systems are created by implementing knowledge provided by experts in a system that can be queried for answers. To automatically generate such knowledge directly from data, the lightweight InteKRator toolbox will be introduced here, which combines knowledge representation and machine learning approaches. Solving NP-Complete Problems with Networks of Evolutionary Processors

We propose a computational device based on evolutionary rules and communication within a network, similar to that introduced in [4], called network of evolutionary processors. An NP-complete problem is solved by networks of evolutionary processors of linear size in linear time. Some furher directions of research are finally discussed.
A model to assess the behavioral impacts of consultative knowledge based systems

This paper develops a research model to study the behavioral impacts of consultative knowledge based systems (KBS). An experiment was conducted with 36 experienced MBA students in marketing management to explore to what extent their decisions were affected by the following factors: user participation in updating the knowledge-base of the KBS, ambiguity of decision setting, routinization of usage, and source credibility of the expertise embedded in the KBS. Results show that ambiguity and source credibility affect user acceptance of the KBS recommendation and cause them to revise decisions. Implications of these findings for the design of consultative KBS are discussed.
